While my fasting blood glucose was 5.9, my overall fasting number was high. I was put on metformin 2 weeks ago. I have not had the diarrhea side effect.

My doctor today said she wants me on a paleo diet. Is that normal or is she pushing her lifestyle? Yes she eats this way. I am 45 and have been a meat and potato eater my whole life.

Thanks for listening!

Paleo doesn’t have to be a lifestyle. Although I do eat “caveman-like”, I certainly don’t live like one.
I’ve been doing “modified Paleo” for several years and it has helped immensely. Like any feeding plan, Paleo can be taken to extremes, which is when it becomes a lifestyle. I don’t take it that far.
For me it’s meat and two vegetables rather than meat and potatoes, baked/grilled chicken versus fried, very limited breads and starches, no pre-made or processed stuff, etc. And yes, I do have pizza now and again if my numbers allow. It is the 21st century after all.

might look into the Mediterranean diet. Close to what I eat and has worked for me. I was a meat and potato guy (well more meat and rice) but pretty much said good-bye to both.

Paleo may be pushing it!!! I try to eat paleo b'fast and lunches, but I don't see why that's important for YOU!!! It does help with weight loss, but we as diabetics give up sooo much food already I couldn't eat like that 24-7!!! Heck no!!!
