i was diagnosed end of April a1c was 11.7, six weeks later down to 8.1,my most recent as of last week 5.5! Just started taking meal time insulin if carb intake is 30 grams and doing really well with that. Lot of hard work, but well worth feeling this good.

Walmart carries. Low carb tortilla- 5 carbs each. I use them for wraps. My last A1-C was 6.7. I was diagnosed in march with A1-C of 18.9. Spent a week in ICU.
Light n fit Greek yogurt only has 7 carbs and is delicious

I measure and count everything. That's the key it seems. There isn't any wiggle room with type 1, from what I've read on this site.

If it isn't worth the shot, I don't eat it. :) Arkins bars are great, almonds and carrots for snacks at work. I eat oranges versus drinking the juice. And 100 calorie packs are good if your just after something sweet.

I am finding now that i am having a hard time with a wheat bread i just got. Tried dream fields pasta tonight (i had it too when i wasn't doing meal time insulin) found i need to give more insulin. I made the mistake of having a sub sandwich the other day. It wasn't so much the higher bs but it was savage on my stomach. White bread completely out for me. Haven't had white bread since diagnosed. I wished i like almonds, but peanuts work

What type do you have and what exactly did start doing to get it that low? What did you cut out? Did you cut it out completely? What kind of foods did you start eating and noticed that helped your blood sugars go down? I am sorry for the many questions but I was just diagnosed and I want to try to get my a1c that low as well. Been type 1 for almost 2 months. Thanks.

Hello and welcome. I am on metformin 2x per day, levemir at night. My pancreas is still making a little insulin but I have all the markers for Type 1. I am still in my "honeymoon period". I have cut out all "white" breads, tortillas, rices. Measuring cup and scale are my best friends. I measure everything. I cut out normal milk products except cheese. I use Kroger brand carbMASTER milk and yogurt. I was eating less than 20 g of carbs per meal (which my doctor told me to make sure I eat 30g per meal, but would shoot bs too high therefore meal time insulin now). I find Atkins bars to be good snacks for me when I need a little pick me up between meals. I give lots of kudos to my husband (been diabetic 35 plus years as of Sept 6) He is great support. I exercise ALOT due to my job. Don't know where you are from or if there is a Chompie's deli where you are, but they have a carbs not bread that is 3g of carbs per slice and it tastes good. Mission tortillas makes a very low net carb tortilla. I make sure I get the whole wheat. I use all whole wheat or whole grain breads. Flatout 5 grain flax foldit is what I like to use for sandwiches too. I used to eat lots of ice cream, basically cut that out. when crave cold, sugar free fudgesicles usually tie me over. I eat a handful of cocktail peanuts when I want a quick snack or string cheese. I have lost 26 pounds since April. I really think the key for me was the exercise. Please feel free to ask anything. We are all here for you. If I think of anything else, I will let you know. Good luck stay positive. Being diagnosed with diabetes is what it is and embrace it and do the best you can. Good luck
