Does anyone know of an suplemental insurance that does not have or covers the gap in perscriptions? I'm on social security and on many different medications. I will always hit the darn gap and have to pay out of pocket which I can't afford. this past yr got stuck reusing needles and not refilling many of my medications because of unable to afford them when this happens. I have only until end of December to change suplemental plans and according to AARP all there plans have the gap with no coverage. any help would be greatly apreciated.

You may be eligible for the extra help for your Medicare D prescription insurance through Social Security. You may qualify if your yearly icome in 2008 is less than #15,600 (single/no dependents or $21,000 (married living with spouse/no dependents) The amount of extra help you get will depend on your income and resources. If you think you may qualify, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. I get the extra help and I have the Humana Insurance. If you are eligible, this will help you get through the gap. Hope this helps, and good luck! Petrea

thank you for all the help.. I will look into the extra help part as i would qualify for this.. kinda hard for me to avoid the gap due to all my meds as by summer/ early fall I seem to hit the gap part no matter what. I do make sure I always keep in insulin threw this time though. Cut back and stop getting pain patches etc. spend more time in bed thru this time to help deal with it. Also going to try and save up as much as I can prior to make it easier and faster getting threw it. As the plan always has better coverage on the other side of the gap.. pays 100% At least I'll be more prepared for it this comming yr than I was last time it effected my insurance.

WA DHSH pays for the gap time and any co-pay so I pay no money for anything all year. See if your state has something like this. Cara

All medicare D plans have the 'gap' written into them. Thank the government for that one. I work for an Insurance company that administers those plans. While i don't work with it directly, I have never heard of one that doesn't have the gap. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. My mother has a plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield that has a fairly low premium and she doesn't hit the gap because she gets generic when she can. I know not all medication have a generic equivalent though so sometimes that doesn't help. I always ask my Doctor if he can prescribe something on the $4 list at Target when he's looking to switch medications.

I wish I could help but dont know anything about the Medicare ins. Check with your local council on the Aging they may be able to help. Also try asking your pharmacist They may be able to tell you more about the ins companies
