Hello everyone! I saw a couple commercials for glucerna and was in cvs yesterday and saw the bars and shakes. Do they really help you control your sugar levels and would it be a good idea to eat or drink them as snacks?

I use the chocolate peanut Glucerna bars prior to exercising, if i have a low BSL, or if I'm not able to eat a small meal right away. My BSL is fine after eating one of them. I've never tried the shakes.

The hospital had me drink the shakes with breakfast and supper daily while I was in for treatment for MRSA and wound Care. Then I used them while I was on the infamous liquid diet the day before a colonoscopy. (They were included on my list of approved liquids for a person with diabetes). They kept my BG OK. But lost my taste for them after having so many over a couple of months. The chocolate tasted the best. But all flavors seemed to leave a slightly chemical after taste that many vitamin fortified things have. Hubby finished off the butter pecan ones I had left over.
They might be my grab in an emergency option. I would need to check my BG under more normal conditions (i.e. no really nasty infection and no real nasty wounds).
Haven't tried the bars yet.I would have to look at the nutrition and ingredients for them. Haven't really checked them out lately. But I think there were too many ingredients I would rather avoid when I looked them over several months ago.

Like others, I prefer a small meal that is balanced, but when I can't eat, I use a shake called Premier Protein which is better for me because I got high BGs on Glucerna. Mine comes in Vanilla or Chocolate; I prefer the Vanilla flavored shake, though I love chocolate flavoring in general.

I have tried both the shakes and snacks. While the shakes taste good, they don't quench my hunger at all. There is something in the snacks that upset my digestive tract, so I don't eat them.

Glucerna has chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and butter pecan flavors. I have discovered that the chocolate and butter pecan is high in sodium. I stick pretty much to the chocolate on occasion and strawberry and I check my blood pressure after I drink them. I prefer to drink them nice and cold as a snack. I didn't like the bars at all.

I do use the Glucerna shakes and find it really works for me. Definitely keeps my sugar levels just right and I always make sure that I have them cold and in the 'fridge.

I have used both the shakes and mini bars, but the shakes contain canola oil which bother me, and both contain too much potassium for my specific diet. Next time you get a sweet attack, try exercising instead.

I prefer to eat the meal or the snack than to use a drink for that purpose. I buy the Fiber One bars and eat half or the whole thing if I am going to be late for a meal. A box can last me at least two weeks if I refrigerate them.

About to go out and grab a box haha. I also work 12 hour shifts, although it is easier for me to eat and snack, I ran into a problem last night and just looking for something to stabilize me between meals and maybe even at night.

I'm with Gabby. I would rather eat my meals. I bought a box of the bars and just had one last night. It helped with my craving for candy. I haven't done the shakes yet. My diabetic educator told me that they could be a good option for me on occasion for a meal replacement. I work 12 hour shifts and I am running around all day. At times it is hard to even get to the restroom let alone to eat properly. I am thinking about getting some to leave in the refrigerator at work just in case.

I've never used the Glucerna, but I do use the Extends snacks. They're pretty good! If my numbers are lower before bed I use them for bedtime snacks to prevent night time lows. I have also used them after correcting a low B/G to help stabilize my sugar till my next meal.

Sometimes I just eat 1/2. Like last night B-4 bed I was at 100. I ate 1/2 an extends bar and no drop in the night. Woke up at 93. :-)

I have used the bars as snacks from time to time. But for the price, I'd rather just eat some nuts or something. They do hit the "sweet" spot though when I want a little something safe. I have not tried the shakes. I'm not a meal replacement kind of person.
