You should always take metformin with food. If you take it on an empty stomache it can make you feel sick to your stomache. Also I read a lot on metformin because I have been taking it for a long time and believe it or not the pros weigh out the cons on this drug. Not saying it's perfect but it gave me peace of mind taking it.

I have a question too, I have heard that Metformin can be very hard on the kidneys? Is this true, the reason why I ask is I have only one kidney & am very concerned for the health of it. Any insight, would be very appreciated.

It should be taken with the meal or no longer then an hour after the meal. But when your body doesn't agree with methformin it doesn't realy matter, you get al lot of toilet visits no matter when you take it. But be sure to read the leaflet and ask your docter/nurse what they say. For me methformine works but my stomach can't handle it.
