Okay, I am trying to get back on track with my diabetes. One question I have is as a Type One, how often should I test my BG? I test before I eat but then how far after that do I test again for post meal BG?

I bolus before each meal and correct for for anything over 100. That is if I'm over 100 before a meal. I don't do a correction between meals unless my blood sugar stays high 3 or more hours after a meal.

Okay, next question…is anyone following a diet plan? I was thinking about following one but the list on here is huge. There are some that sound ike options but I would like input…wish we could do polls…

I follow a low carb diet and have been for about 10 years now. Cutting back on the carbs has enabled me to maintain my weight at a reasonable 120 pounds and has enabled me to keep my A1c's at 7 or below. I'm a moderately active 64 year old and try to eat no more than 120 grams of total carb per day; usually 30 grams at breakfast and 45 each for lunch and dinner. Some here on DC may eat less carbs and some may eat more… I truly believe that limiting carbs is the key to better control.

I try to test a minimum of six times daily. Once before every meal and then two-three hours after each meal as well. Then of course test if you feel your sugar is hi or low. Congratulations on trying to get back on track! You can do it!

I test 6 to 8 times per day and have used an insulin pump for the last 2 years of my 37 years with diabetes. Test times are upon awakening/breakfast, 2 hours after each meal, and at bedtime, and sometimes at 3 am or whenever I'm feeling my BG might be low to verify a low before eating anything.

I bolous around 5-6 times a day when i eat anything. I only correct when my sugars are above 8. Assuming i have no insulin on board and im not doing anything active
