Any body know a really get way to handle stress? When I get stressed my blood sugars sky rocket.
When that happens I get even more stressed, then I keep checking it to see if it has gone down. UGH! Sometime when I have a bad dream it goes up. How does one control that?

Hi tantaopa,

Nice to see you!

I hear a lot about stress on Diabetic Connect. What that says to me is that we are all living with a lot of stress in our lives, and we are all looking for better ways to deal with stress. So you came to the right place.

There are a lot of ways out there to deal with stress. Relaxation techniques like breathing exercises, doing things you enjoy, spending time with friends, taking a walk.

But I also think we can lower our stress by changing how we think about potentially stressful events. It comes down to taking the time to consider what you have control over and what you don't have control over. So much stress comes from thinking we should be in control of things that are completely out of our control.

Here is a link to an article I wrote awhile back:

I always tell my clients: change the way you think and you will change the way you feel.

I hope this helps. Stay in touch with us!

I do yoga or clean to relieve stress. I find during exams i have to increase my basal rate by as much as 30% to keep my sugars in check. If i know something unavoidably stressful is going to happen i use meditation. And always check my bg more frequently. Better safe than sorry! Good luck! :-)

I find that listening to my favourite music, reading or going for a walk helps stress levels. Everyone is different so do something that you enjoy :) Once you are less stressed during waking hours the dreams should go away?
