I have a "Diet" question. I am over weight by at least 40 lbs, How many Calories should I eat, I am on Novolin R normal meal needles plus a sliding scale and Lantus, I take 6 needles of the Novolin, since my Dr wants me eating 3 meals plus 3 snacks. I am 5' 3" tall and I am 37 years of age. Any help is much needed even if its a sample meal plan.

pilates would be good! I do that several times a week. I WAs almots 40 lbs overweight when I was diagnosed, I was shocked I was diabetic with only that amount of weight to lose, which is small compared to most, nevertheless, it seemed daunting to me, but I lost it. I am about your height also. I think they had me on around 1600 calories if I remember correctly.

Swimming, walking, there is some Pilates that focuses on strengthening the lower back and has modifications for people as your self with back and knee problems. But walking and Pilates might be something to look in to, winsor has some awesome CDs I'm sure there are others out there:)

Processed foods, breads, pastas, limit diary, all fast packed foods. I know it's hard to cut all that out and feel like you are being deprived , sometimes it's easier to cut portions first like instead of eating that whole club sandwhich eat half and skip on the chips maybe have a salad with dressing on the side or a cup of broth based soup. You can easily cut calories by cutting small things out and wrking your way up plus every one is diff you may need more calories and maybe certain thing really effect ur blood sugar. Adkins has a good on the go shake that's 4 grams of carbs 110 cals for on the go for a snack or breakfast. And a good substitute for milk is unsweetened almond milk it takes some getting use to but it can be good . Some fruits can be misleading, yes they are healthy, but stay away from melons and oranges, eat spearingly stick to berrys and apples and pears, they have fiber and berrys effect the blood sugar not so hard core like watermelon would

There is also one called 'Lose It', which I use. I'll check on that one as well.

If you have a smart phone there is an app that is called num it counts calories for you and adds and subtracts exercise and a food list it's free and can be handy, it just doesn't count carbs so you will have to do that but best wishes - cheers

Try 1,200 cals a day either 350 cals or 3 meals at 300 cals and a 150 cal snack , eat more fiber bc when you first start off you tend to get hungry, but then your body gets use to it . Hard boils eggs, fat free cottage cheese, dark leafy greens are great and lean proteins. I like to eat bocca burgers they tend to fill you up with a lot less calories then meat .
