My family is all military background. My mom, my dad, my brother, grandparents..everyone. I had always dreamed of serving in the United States Navy and serving my country like my family did. Hearing the stories about the flight deck and becoming a shellback, I wanted it more than anything, to serve my country, man that was the dream. But now that I have Type 1, I've been denied by all branches not just the military. Im a liability now. I understand why I can't join. But it doesn't change the fact that I feel like I just got the rug pulled out from under me. I can't do what I've always wanted to do, what I've taken so much pride in. I just feel like I'm liability now. Has anyone else had this problem? Being denied something just because they have diabetes?

Perhaps you could look into working for the VA hospital in some capacity or other business which sells services/supplies to the military or military bases. you would not have a rank but there would be opportunities to work with military personnel directly. it would be similar to a civilian contractor position.
