I had flu 3 weeks ago with a chest infection which developed into acute bronchitis. I've been on amoxicillin and now on my second dose of clarithromycin. When I do too much I get breathless and start having coughing fits. I agree this is lasting a long time and am unsure if I'm well enough to return to work as teacher. Bloods are all over the place.

I get bronchities at least once yearly and it seems to last forever (or at least three weeks). I never thought it had anything to do with my diabetes.

Okay, here is "Doctor" Jim. LOL. Take in a deep breath, filling your chest. Now, blow it out your mouth, quickly. If you cannot take in the deep breath, or if you hear/feel any wheezing when you blow it out, you most likely have a lung infection which can lead to pneumonia (?sp). An inhaler may help with the sympthoms, but the infection needs to either be fought by your body or with meds. The problem is that the illness itself can effect your BS as well as the meds used to fight it. Remember too that as a person with diabetes, your recovery from anything is likely to be longer. Even scrapes and brusis take longer to clear up. So my unofficial advice is 1) Drink plenty of water 2) take a decongestant to make sure everything stays liquid 3) take ibruprofen to reduce swelling and pain. 4) rest, don't push yourself. An exhausted person has a tough time recovering from something like this. Wish you the best. Jim

My daughter and I had a fight with whooping cough last year …my doc advised a lot of water and extra vitamin C. It helps boost your immune system . I will keep you in my thoughts and hope you feel better .
