Hi, just wanted to give those of you who are in need of supplies and their money is stretch due to Unemployment or Inability to work from Diabetes. Lilly, the maker of insulin gives free insulin and also if you are on an insulin pump (Medtronic is the one I am on) they also give you reservoirs and infusion sets. You will need to meet certain financial guidelines. When I was "laid off" and found a part time job I got better control only working 3 days a week instead of 5(which of course affected my income). However, I needed help with my insulin pump supplies and insulin. I couldn't afford Cobra Ins. from my prior job @ 600 a month so the only one I could get was a cheaper Blue Shield plan which had a pre-existing condition clause which meant they paid 0 of my diabetes supplies and doctor bills. If you need help finding the website for Lilly or Medtronic for you pumpers just let me know.

Novo Nordisk also has a Patient Assistance Program (many companies do - to find out, call the maker of your product, OR google Patient Assistance Program and the company name - or ask your doctor)

Novo nordisk's website (at http://novonordisk-us.com/patients/patient-as... ) states:

"Diabetes Care

The Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program (PAP) is our continued commitment to people living with diabetes and the Novo Nordisk Triple Bottom Line. The Diabetes PAP provides free medicine to those who qualify. If approved, a free 120-day supply of medicine will be sent to the prescribing health care providers’ office to be picked up at the patient's convenience. Novo Nordisk will automatically contact the health care provider 90 days later to approve the medication reorder.

If you are a patient in need of assistance, or you know someone in need of assistance, follow these 3 simple steps to see if you qualify for free diabetes medication from Novo Nordisk:

Fill out the Patient section of the application
Gather proof of income
Take application and proof of income to your doctor to complete the Health Care Practitioner section
How to get started: Download the US Application (PDF) or View Products Covered by PAP (PDF).

Patients and caregivers can also obtain more information and access to the program by calling the Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program toll free at 866-310-7549.

If you are a health care professional and you want additional information about the Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program, have eligible patients who are not yet enrolled, or have patients who are enrolled and want additional information about their eligibility, please visit the "Patient Support" section on the Physician Portal at novomedlink.com."

Medtronics has a financial aid program I will quote from their website at:

Call 1.800.646.4633 and select option 4.

"Financial Assistance
With the many tasks diabetes involves, one thing we don't want you to worry about is finances. We have an innovative Financial Assistance Program to help ensure that you stay on our therapy so you can continue to live your life, your way.

The program provides support for customers living in the United States who:

Use an insulin pump
Use continuous glucose monitoring
Meet specific income guidelines
Have an insurance company that allows for additional assistance

It also provides temporary coverage for specific situations:

Unemployment within the last 12 months
Gap in insurance coverage because of a pre-existing condition
Multiple pumpers in one household
Permanent disability (you will need to apply each year)

To check and see if you are eligible for financial assistance, call us Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM central time at 1.800.646.4633 and select option 4."

I need pump supplies I am taking shots and my blood sugar is 500. Very sick

unfortunately Sherri, this discussion may be outdated as it is a year of so old. Things have changed in the med insurance and the medical business.
You may wish to Google low cost pump supplies to see if there may still be some sites which do have such programs available

Praying you find them
