I came across this study that was conducted to find out the most effective amount for someone with type 1 diabetes to be testing their blood sugar each day.

If found it interesting, but I would be more interested to hear from all of you to see how often you are all testing and whether you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes?

I have been T1 for about a month. I have been testing about 8-14 times a day. I find between meals, exercise, lows, highs… it is pretty impossible for me to know whats going on unless I test often. I am hoping once I get a pump it helps me stay more stable. CGM would be awesome too, seems like you don't have to test all the time with that sort of thing?

type I (since age 15) now 74 years old. I have finally gotten serious about diet and no longer in denial in the last 10 years or so. hbaic now about 6.2 on a very low carb diet (the Amer Diabetes Assoc does not approve); I test at least 8 times a day, and whenever I wake up at night. Thanks for asking: Richard.Allen

I'm T1 and teat before every meal and snack. If I'm sick then its every few hrs just to see how things are going.

I test at least 7 times a day. Sometimes it's 10-12 depending how the day is going. It think it's important to test so you have an idea of what your sugar is doing. Plus, I like to know if I counted carbs right or how other things effect my sugar. I've been T1 for 14 yrs and wear an insulin pump.

I'm a type 2 Dx Nov 2010 with A1c of 6.9. Began testing 2x daily and for the last 11/2 yrs. have tested 3x daily. Well above the ADA and Fed Gvmt recommendation. Last 3 A1c's(6 mos.apart) have been 5.4, 5.4, and 5.6. I can't imagine dealing with the monster without frequent testing. You have to know where you are at to address how to fix it.

I usually test 7 times daily and more often if I'm feeling that I might be hypo or if I'm battling an infection. I found that I test more frequently now that I'm on the pump (last 2 years) than when I was on MDI. My last A1c was 6.7. I have been a Type 1 since 1976 (37 years).

My doctors always tell me to test a minimum of four times a day. So I always try to test between 4-8 times a day, 10 if I'm sick.
