My BG was 197 today, highest since diagnosed with Type 2. Having trouble knowing what to eat that I like besides carbs. Like for lunch. Also have been real crabby. Can someone tell me how to lower BG quickly when it gets high like this?

I just joined because I am not computer skilled ( slowly learning). I have type I and know just from my experience thru life blood sugar does relate to mood. I have also noticed it is much easier to detect lows when I am around people familiar with me (friends). For the highs drink more water to 'flush' the sugar out and test your blood sugar before you walk and after you are done with your exercise. I have had this wonderful condition for 34 years and have decided I was blessed with it so I can help educate people about diabetes. Keep asking questions and talk to your Dr. (Hopefully they are helpful) I have seen some new info on insulin sensitizers.

Hi! Welcome to the community! :) I'm glad you're here, and I hope some of us can answer some of your questions. I've been living with this disease, personally, for about 13 years. Here's what I've learned so far about lowering your BSL…for me, nothing works except to take a walk. About 20 minutes of walking after getting a high BSL will lower it some. Results differ according to age, how high the BSL was, and how vigorously you walk. Also, drink lots of water during and after you walk. High blood sugar levels can cause you to be grumpy, too. Just having to deal with this disease can make you grumpy! Here's a piece of advice my doctor gave me…"Remember…you have diabetes. Diabetes does NOT have you!"

I know 197 is not "normal", but it is not horrible either. You do not want to do it quickly as that can be dangerous and unhealthy. Work on counting carbs and try to incorporate exercise slowly, as it may drop too fast. Hope this helps.

Drinking water is a great way to start. Also taking a walk as long as you are under 300 when you do, that can have lasting effects on your levels. I have also found that consuming things like lemon, lime, cucumber and mint can help lower my levels.

Thank you. I'll try that. Once I was low n I ate a whole lemon slice and i'm not able to do that usually. Gobbled it up. Lol
