I was wanting to know does anybody know what low blood sugar does to the human body? I never learned it as long as I've been a diabetic.

I just posted (3 times!! didn't mean to do that!) what low blood sugar did to me! I got so dizzy I could not walk, get on an elevator, escalator etc. I was so afraid!! Just amazing. Low blood sugar just made me weak! I could not walk…I have had these episodes before, but never knew what they were. I would just fall down for no reason. Just plop! One minute I am up and the next I am on the ground. Such weirdness. I have yet to understand it or feel it coming…but now I know. My medical assistant says always to carry some sort of "life savior" for those moments. A glass of OJ perhaps would have helped me. But when you are so disoriented and in a shopping mall…what does one do!? I will forever be grateful to that gentle man who helped me out of there!

I buy glucose lozenges from the drug store and always carry them in my purse. They are pure sugar and the BS rises back quickly. I, too, have been so weakened by the lows that i could hardly walk. Thank God this has not happened to me away from home.

We must be entirely vigilant and never take our good health for granted. We must eat all of our meals and snacks, exercise and take our meds as prescribed in order to properly control our diabetes. When we are away from home we must always carry a treatment for our lows with us. We must not think that we can just go somewhere to buy a glass of O.J. say when we are low. By that time it might be too late. Always carry a treatment with you so you have instant access to it.
