I have not read any other replies yet, but get out and meet new people, maybe volunteer at your church or somewhere in your city, or an organization, maybe take up a couple of new hobbies. I slow down in the summer, and some days are boring. I have my home business it is PT and I have a PT office job but the hours I decrease in summer being with my daughter and doing many things with her. we find many things to do, so I am glad I still have her at the age she is, and having her friends over, in a few years, she will be driving and that will be different. I also volunteer at my church and so most days are kind of fuill, especially the rest of the year. I hope you can find some things that work for you. I totally understand

Hey tinkerbelll,

Nice to run into you here. It's been awhile since we have been in touch.

It sounds like you could use some more activities in your life. Have you looked into doing some kind of volunteer work, maybe a day a week, or a morning or two. Maybe at a senior center, a local hospital, a nursing home, even at your library. It might help to have something like that to do with a regular schedule.

Are you involved in any kind of hobbies, li9ke crafts? That might also be interesting for you. Any hobby classes in your area that you could sign up for?

Maybe doing some searching on the Internet for local volunteering opportunities might be a good starting point.

I hope you will stay in touch with us. Let us know how your're doing!

Gary

I got it. Still, I encourage you to look at what's going on in your community and how you might get involved in some way. Sounds like you have a lot to offer, my friend! Keep me posted, please. Gary

Tinkerbell get out and take walk and meet some of your neighbors or when your at. The grocery store say hi to as many people as you can and just smile for some reason it makes you feel better about yourself I'm a very shy person when in public but I did this and it really works you don't have to feel so lonely this way

Tinkerbell, I don't have time to be bored, I am involved in making jewelry for our business, and community work. So far this month we have gotten a major makeover for the front part of our community garden, I am working with the police department and ministers for our Day of Hope, Bless Baltimore Motorcade and Rally. I signed up to be the volunteer coordinator for our Day of Hope, and coordinator for our Prayer Walks, I am working on National Night Out with our Neighborhood Services Unit in the police Department, Contacting guest speakers for our District Police Meetings for the rest of the year and the Police Commander for our district and I have come up with a project we are going to work on that will involve creating a women's group. There is a Cycle of Hope with over 2500 bicycle riders. We have gotten bottled water donated to sell as a fundraiser for youth organizations in the community.

I am only bored when I really don't feel like doing anything. There are so many things you can be doing to beat boredom and fight loneliness when you are at home. Find out if your community has an association, get involved with that. Try out a hobby you can learn to do just about anything on You Tube. A lot of libraries have children's sections, ask if you can volunteer to read to them during reading hour. The big thing these days is gardening. If you can grow flowers or veggies. Start a walking group with neighbors on your street. If you belong to a church, get involved in activities there.

Think about something you want to do or something you want to learn to do. Find a class. If you have an ACMoore or Micheals, take a class. Here is an idea, I know a lady who goes to cigar stores and gets their empty cigar boxes, She covers them in fabric, adds lace, beads , little legs and sells them as Tea Boxes to store your tea in them. This would be a good money maker for you and the boxes are free. Good Luck my friend

Lots of good ideas in the responses below. I don't have enough hours in the day to do everything I'd like to do. I love to read (Just finished "A Dance With Dragons" in the Game of Thrones series and can't wait for the next one to be published. (HBO's series "Game of Thrones" is also very well done.) I belong to a quilting guild and 3 other sewing groups. I teach quilting classes at the local quilt shop and guild. I used to do a lot of knitting but not so much anymore due to living in Florida. I volunteer at the library every week. This is the 4th year that I've made bibs for the newborn to 3 year old group at a summer camp for children with cancer and their families. (My cousin and her daughter, a pediatrician, volunteer there every summer) What are your interests? do you like to cook?…craft?…play games?…read?…help others?

Ruth,
For myself I just try to keep occupied with anything physical. Yard work is something you can do a bit of everyday. For myself I am retired from the Navy and am attending college using the GI Bill. To avoid boredom just keep busy, take a walk, go to the mall and window shop, no need to buy anything but you can spend a long time wandering around just looking. Plus if there is a bookstore you can go there and hang out and do some browsing and reading also.

What do you like to do? Did you used to have any hobbies that you've been wanting to resume? Do you like to write or journal? Anther possibility is to take a class or volunteer at the library or hospital.
