Vacation time - what do you do to prepare?

Summer time is vacation time for many. It can be hard to stick to your normal routine while on vacation and that can mess with your diabetes. I am just curious what all of you do to help you prepare for your vacation in order to keep good diabetes control while vacationing?

First, my vacations are usually not in summer because I teach all summer. Second, responses to a previous post I made warned me that I should expect a rise in my blood glucose numbers while on vacation so I was prepared when that did occur. The biggest adaptation was to make sure I stuck to my diet. It was not easy but it is possible. I also made sure to walk 2-3 miles a day and make use of the local gym. I know that may not be possible in all vacation settings but making sure to add sufficient activity really help make a positive difference

I make sure my daughter has plenty of supplies and meds, extra meter, bottled water and low carb snacks!

Believe it or not I went on vacation for a month and a half and I lost 16 pounds!
I ate plenty of seafood and stayed away from carbs!
Got lots of exercise walking the beach in the morning and the evening!
Drink plenty of water!
Check my sugar in the morning and in the evening!
And could not ask for a better reading!
