A while back I got on fb most of the time I go in read what every one is writing about since my friends are made up of friends and family. they will get a like or once in a while a comment. My Husband is from a large family and I came keep them up to date. with him. I am the last of my family I have cousins out in the world but I don't no where. I want to get this problem under control and when I get my weight down discuss with the doctor about take me off Meds and trying with diet and exercise. But every time I go he is adding a Med the last time it was for Cholesterol was not as he wanted it my cholesterol was 181, my trig. 172, HDL was 36 LDL was 111 yes they were all moving in the wrong direction but does Medication the only answer. am I being foolish or my doctor who is a PHP just looking for the quick fix.

Hi suzy, welcome to DC family and a great group of people. I had never had a problem with cholesterol in my life until 6 months after I was diagnosed. My doctor put me on medication. It took a year to get it under control and after 6 more months the doctor took me off of the cholesterol medication.

This is your health and you are not being foolish. Have a sit down with you doctor and address all of your medical concerns. Only you and your doctor can address them.
By the way I have a large family of cousins on both parents side of the family. I have not friended any of them on FB because I would not be able to keep up. We do a lot of phone calling also. I must say I am totally addicted to Candy Crush Saga and Words with Friends. Best of luck to you.

Hey Suzy,

Welcome, welcome, my friend. I am glad you are here!

It's a good thing to to work closely with your doctor, to be a team with him to make sure you get the best care possible. If you are concerned about the number and types of medications he is prescribing, you might want to make sure he is aware of your concerns. And to ask him to work with you on reducing the number of medications over time.

As EmmyLouWho said so well, maybe you could put an action plan together.

Something to think about.

And if you continue to have concerns, you might also consider getting a second opinion, maybe with an endocrinologist.

Stay in touch!

Gary

I think it never hurts to get a 2nd opinion, however you do have to consider that you are messing with your health here. Maybe you could try expressing this concern to him and asking to come up with an action plan to get you healthier and ultimately off of meds. If he is open to this, then great! If he is not, then I say it is time to find a doctor who is willing to help you toward your long term goal of managing your diabetes with no or minimal medications.
