Diabetes and Your Cancer Risk

With all the things that we have to watch, here is something else to look out for. I don't know if it is because of what causes diabetes also makes us predisposed to these cancers or if our treatments often allow these cancers to rear their ugly heads. Diabetes has been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers. Find out what you can do to protect your health.

A number of studies have investigated a possible link between diabetes and an increased cancer risk, but the literature has been scattered. The need for more information prompted a group of researchers to create a comprehensive report, published in 2010, to evaluate the findings to-date and determine what further research is needed.

"Diabetes and cancer are common diseases, and there is evidence that people with diabetes are at higher risk of some forms of cancer," explained Susan M. Gapstur, PhD, MPH, vice president of the Epidemiology Research Program at the American Cancer Society and one of the authors of the report. "However, the biology linking these two common diseases is complex and not completely understood."
