Is mandarin oranges ok to eat for people with diabetes to eat? What kind of fruit is soft and not too hard to bite or chew? I don't have any teeth and my fruit and food needs to be soft food and soft fruits. I don't have any friends on here. I just got signed up two months ago. I'm still new at this stuff.

Thank you for the advise. I just started using Splenda. I used Sweeten Low before but my bus driver from the handicapped service that I use here where I live told me about Splenda. She is also a diabetic. I will try some strawberries. Someone told me to eat some grapes. Can you tell me about grapes and peaches? My name is Robin. I put smithlittle for a user name and Rob as a nick name. Is grapes or peaches good for us to eat?

I stay away from mandarin oranges and they are too high in carbs for me. In fact, if they come in a salad I've ordered, I pick them out and won't eat them. You need to become aware of the carb content of any fruit you want to eat to determine if it's safe for you. There are lots of great carb guides out there…Calorie King is one and I use Dana Carpender's New Carb and Calorie Counter. Carbs are what make your blood sugar rise.

You could puree fruit without adding any extra liquid or sugar and that would make it soft and easily swallowed. If you want it sweeter, I would suggest adding Splenda to the puree. Most berries are low carb. One cup of fresh sliced strawberries has 13 grams of carb; compare that to the 27 grams of carb in one 7" banana. One cup of fresh blueberries has 22 grams of carb; one cup of fresh raspberries has 15 grams of carb. One cup of fresh pineapple chunks has 22 grams of carb vs one cup of canned pineapple chunks in heavy syrup has 34 grams of carb. If you are buying canned fruit, try to get those packed in their own juices rather than in any syrup. Read the labels for the serving sizes and carb content per serving.
