Well, last Sunday night ,a week ago, I was up ALL night long and all Monday morning in lots of pain!! I missed a couple of doses of my Nexium, so I fully expected to feel fine by next day, not!
Every day, I had mild to bad pain throughout day and night for the next few days. I went to the doctor, he doubled my dose, so I started taking 2 nexium a day for 5 days then he said it is back to one a day. Well tomorrow is back to once a day, and I am afraid of that. I had a stomach ultrasound this morning! I had an endoscopy 2 1/2 years ago that revealed gastritis caused by that awful H. Pylori bacteria!!! If you have ever had acid reflux or any other gastrol. issue that has been caused by this bacteria, you must know that it can cause stomach cancer, and also, .you must make sure you get rid of it. It is hard to get rid of and I am not sure they did 2 1/2 years ago!! I took the antibiotics but it was never suggested that I have a test to see if it was gone, and there are only 2 tests and the doctor told me they are not 100% accurate, the breath test and stool test, only way to be sure he said is to do another endoscopy! I am just praying it is not too serious whatever is wrong this time and that it is not my gall bladder, I so do not want to have any sugery. It seems so many of us with diabetes have this. I welcome any stories, feedback from those who have had the same thing.

I have laparascopic gall bladder surgery on tues. day after tomorrow. I am nervous, but at the same time, I know it will turn out well,. I have talked to SO many who have had this done, and some of them did not even need pain meds at home, after they wore off from the hospital, it is outpatient. I wll be there 2 hours before it starts, and then it will take about an hour or a little more, and then recovery for an hour and a half to two hours. I have never been put to sleep before. But I have had two major surgeries, two csections, and this is not anywhere near what those operations involved. I already have a script for a narcotic, which I do not want to take unless I have to. those can have many very bothersome common side effects. I did all the preop stuff the other day. So I am looking forward to not having any more episodes, and who knows, I have bee told by the doctor that my acid reflux should improve also, whic as long as I am on nexium I am fine, but I am thinkking now after this is done, in the future, when I come off nexium, I may not have anymore problems with that at all. For me, the two were related, and the surgeon told me that gall bladder problems can feel exactly like acid reflux.

update: I have an appt. with a surgeon on the 11th. This was the earliest appt I could get a few days ago, when my hubby could also be with me. I think it best to get two opinions, even with gall bladder surgery, such a routine surgery as that. So I go to another one later. I just hope I do not have a flare up during my mini-vacation coming up, we have paid the money and it is too late to cancel, so we have to go, and the second consultation with the other doctor is after that. So far so good. I have been pain free for many days now. I am just watching the fat in my diet, but then, that is what I have been doing most of the time since I was diagnosed with D anyway. Two nurse friends just told me to do that and that is was possible I would not have a flare up for a very long time. But if they tell me I have to have surgery, I will not put it off. I know some who did, and their gall bladders nearly burst.

This is a common problem with many people even those without diabetes. It is more common if you are older and excess weight sometimes plays a role. It can also be aggravated by breathing disorders such as asthma and/or allergies. You are on the path to getting better! Stay well.

I don't have excess weight anymore, got rid of that 4 yrs ago, so I thought it would stop and it did for weeks or months, and it would always come back, but the last 2 1/2 yrs in particular have been harder for me. I do not have breathing problems Also, I can tell it does not matter what I eat, most of the time spicy foods, and all the foods that are supposed to trigger it, normally don't so that isnt it either. Still waiting, on ultrasound results was supposed to get them yesterday, but they had a backlog due to the holiday. something is causing this.

It is so frustrating when you have to advocate for your health when it seems as though the docs should just be taking care of it! I had my gall bladder out 10 years ago and take protonix. Works great and I only have to be careful with fats. Fortunately, I don't like spicy food or acidy drinks. When on vacation in less developed countries I don't take the meds because the acid is NEEDED to kill the whatever it is in the water! I have started taking the meds every other day and it seems to be enough unless I go ape and eat a truckload of bacon!!! Good luck with your results!!!

great that it took care of it, and why do you still have to take meds? I guess having gall bladder must not solve for everyone.

I take a medication called Pantoloc & it works great. The one thing I learned from watching a program called The Doctors is to sleep on your left side. If you go to their website & in the search type in Acid Reflux, Dr. Travis will come on & explain about why sleeping on your left side helps. It does take a few minutes for him to come on so be patient. This has really helped me 100% & I hope it helps you as well!! I only take Pantoloc when I need it & it's a prescription.

Not trying to scare anyone, but if you suffer from acid reflux, please have it verified by s Dr. My brother In law had constant heartburn for months. He finally felt do bad, he called 911. It was his heart. They put 2 stents in @ ER. Then another 4 stents 2 months later. Just something to be aware of

thank you for adding that, so true. I have heard of that before. But in my case, fortunately is not, but can't wait to find out today what is actually causing the reflux, most likely that nasty bacteria that caused problems so many times in the past, I could have an ulcer I suppose or hernia, or something like that, I don't know. gastritis which is what it was causing it 2 1/2 yrs ago Nexium worked great for, and it helps now ,just not all the time like it did.

I use to have acid reflux before I was diabetic. Mine is caused if I eat raw onions, celery, anything tomato based such as spaghetti sauce. When I worked in a hospital the gastric specialist said to put two bricks and raise the head of my bed and that stopped the problem.

When I was diagnosed I had a cough at night that I could not get rid of and my doctor told me that was one of the symptoms of acid reflux. He gave me a Rx for Nexium. The pharmacist told me to go by Prilosec and told me what ingredient to look for on the label. Was great for me and now I only take it if I have a symptoms. I try to avoid foods that are high in acid.

what I don't like is how I have heard some say over the years, like nurses, well you might have to be on meds the rest of your life. Well the way I think about it, not if I don't have to, they are so quick to push these drugs, but when something is causing the problem and you get rid of the something, which in my case I supposedly got rid of that bacteria, I took that nexium for months afterward 2 1/2 years ago, and I took myself off of it. I was fine for about a year! This time, I will take it as long as they say, but they already talked about when I've been Nexium again for so long ,they want to put me on something else, well how do they know I won't be cured by then< They really always talk like this is a very long term thing. I had no damage that needed to be healed back then. They told as always no spicy food, no cheese, no caffeine, which I did up until today. I stay away from most of that, but I've had this off and on for 7 years. I had the bacteria the first time, tested positive on a blood test, so they gave me antibiotics but never checked, never ordered an endoscopy to make sure it was gone! When I have not been on meds which ha been the majority of these years, I could eat anything I wanted and sometimes only sometimes have this, and other times, I would eat purposely bland food and still get it!! So for me, I feel for some reason right now, I am going to have it regardless of what I eat. Glad you are doing really great now Joyce.

Sometimes if you know something isn't working you have to make the doctor order the proper test. Acid reflux use to wake me up at night it was so bad.

I am not going the bland food route. I tried that and it bored me to death. Mine comes and goes based on what I eat. What is strange is even water use to give it to me. I drink decaf coffee. Although you can't totally remove caffeine from anything, I noticed that it doesn't do what regular coffee does.

I wish I was like you, and that mine was based on what I eat but after all these yrs, off and on with it, I do not think so. No, not going to do bland food for long, today was the first day I had some spicy food. did not eat the onions or green peppers though I wanted them badly, at the restaurant with my chicken fajitas, I did have some of the hot sauce on them and some of the spicy beans, and I was happy. had a little cheese too, but not much. That was an early lunch too, after my stomach ultrasound, so that was 6 hours ago and so far so good.

oh I must add, I am better!! much better. I started getting better Friday morning, and then I had pains again that afternoon but not as bad, but bad enough to stay home and not feel like doing anything. Then I woke up pain free Sat. , Sunday and this morning!! so happy about that!! At night, when it gets worse, before bed, I just take some extra strength Tylenol and it goes away.

well I was so happy about not waking up with any pain the last few days, and I woke up with some pain this morning, but not real bad, today is the day I got back to one nexium a day, so I am concerned trying to watch everything I eat and not eat much at once, and all that good stuff.ugh! I want that ultrasound report and see what is going to happen next. I want it to stay gone!
