Having lived with diabetes for over 36 years, I have definitely had my fair share of interesting questions and statements (I am sure most of you have). So in the interests of having some fun with this topic, I have thought I would put together my top 10.

In reality, I view each interesting misconception as a chance to help people understand our disease more, but it never hurts to have fun with it at the same time. I hope you enjoy…

Please leave any others that you might have heard yourself. My personal favorite is
"you must have been fat as a kid, or your mum and dad gave you too much sugar". Its a classic :)

When people say idiotic things like that to me I usually say "I bet your parents are so proud of you for being the genius in the family" and keep going.

A lady offered me a cookie the other day and I said no thanks. She insisted and I said no thanks I am diabetic and can't have the cookie. She said your mother let you eat too much candy as a child. I said nope she gave us pure sugar water in an IV every night until we were 18. She said I guess that sounded ignorant. I said ignorant people say ignorant things so I guess you are a card carrying member of the Ignorant Club. She huffed up and walked away.

I haven't had weird or sarcastic comments since high school, I'm 39 now. So, it's been awhile.

Or "Do you have the good kind or the bad kind?" The other day I grabbed a piece of candy from a bowl at my aunts my uncle looks at me and goes "Uh oh! Sugar!" Pffft yes I realize that!
