Who else counts to three and/or flinches before pricking their finger?

Sounds to me like you need better lancets. If your lancet is sharp, you shouldn't have any pain when you test. You want to get that pain free, so you don't end up making excuses not to test. Perhaps finding a smaller gauge lancet will help?

I try to count to 10 !!! LOL and I am uncomfortable pricking my finger to draw blood no matter how many times I do it! Also, I have times that I can't get any blood and have to do it again with another finger! I try not to put the gadget with the needle higher than 2 or it is too painful. I have always been afraid of needles.

Mine only hurt when I hit a nerve which doesn't happen too often. I also have calluses on my fingers from playing guitar so I don't feel it too much :P

Fingers are meant to be that sensitive. It's our way of knowing the world. It's not easy to be sure. I have one that I've managed to cut off a small section of twice, if I forget and hit that one spot… man it hurts. Maybe there will be a day where we won't have to.
Have you ever looked into continuous glucose monitoring?

I'm pretty good at keeping my sugar in check and balancing my diet. I check my bg level when I'm not feeling well, so I don't prick all the time …so I'm not used to it when it's time to check. Lol. I don't think I would need continuous monitoring.

I have a lancet device that allows me to use my arm as an alternate site. I would never check my sugars if I had to prick my fingers.

No I have never done that. Paper cuts hurt worse than pricking my finger to test my blood and paper cuts can be far more dangerous because of infection.
