As I was crushing up my dog’s medications for his arthritis, I thought this is hard. “My hands hurt! I am going to break the bowl, in my attempts to crush up the hard Glucosamine pills.” The vet said I could use the same pill I use, which would be great if I didn’t have a very smart dog, which can pick out the pill from all his kibble. He also receives the small aspirin I use for my heart and fish oil caplets. I thought thank God he doesn’t have diabetes. He is a candidate for the disease, overweight, and too much food not enough exercise. It’s got to run in the family right? Like Mother like Son? What do pet owners have to do when they find their beloved pet has diabetes?
Well I used the internet and found the following web site,
The first thing I read in big blue letters was “Educate yourself. You are responsible for the daily care of your pet. Diabetes in pets is NOT a Death Sentence.” Did you ever read this about yourself, I am sure it sounds familiar?
Next it goes on with another familiar mantra, “Eventually, you must have a thorough enough understanding of diabetes so that you can be confident in managing this disease instead of fearing it. If your regular vet is unavailable when a minor question arises, you must have the confidence to make a decision based on your understanding of diabetes and how it affects your pet.”

My ex boss had a cat that had seizures and one day she asked me to go to Wal mart to pick up the prescription. It was the same as humans. The pharm tech said Meagan(dog's name) was a beautiful name for a little girl. I quietely said it was for a dog. We had a chuckle about that. Thought I would pass that along and to say that this information you got is great. We forget that our animals can get some of the same diseases as we can. My cat has been tested for diabetes because he is fat and always drinking but so far he is fine. Tried to give him diet food he just ate more of it.
