Wheres your diabetic nutritionist? Dont have one? Get one. Not sure how I feel about your doc doing a study when you should have been checking your BS more often. It seems he may have a better idea, but the question is, do you?

Testing in the morning won't help you to determine how the pasta will affect you if you ate the pasta for dinner at 6pm last night. You have to test at least 2 hours after the meal.

Oh I did not realize. The Dr. only said that I test only in the morning!

Is your doctor an endocrinologist? Most people test at least 3 to 4 times a day…before a meal, 2 hrs after a meal and at bedtime to get a bigger picture.

The doctor told me to test once a day for alternating weeks for a month. I then went to testing after every meal. This helped me learn how my body reacted as a whole and not based on individual meals. After the first month we went to after every meal for three months. Then back to once a day for another month and back to three months after every meal. I was helping him with a study he was doing. Now I am under control and test once a day. If I introduce new foods or eat at a restaurant this is when I test after the meal. You should be testing after every meal until you learn what foods will spike and what foods won't.

Some foods can cause spikes between 2 to 6 hours after. Then there are some that can make your morning BG higher. Certain salad dressings will give me a high morning BG. Some foods digest quicker, others slower. I have read that some people have figured out that pasta can wait up to 6 hours to affect their BG.
Through testing we can fine tune our food choices.
The foods that raise BG can vary from person to person. It is so frustrating at times figuring out what works.
My Dr. told me test once or twice daily as well. Some days I will test a food and do 15 minute tests for 3 hours. Other days I will just pick a random time to test. Then there are the times I will do 2 tests a day for few weeks at different times in rotation to determine what an average day's BG is doing. I will do a fasting and 2 hour post breakfast on day 1. Day 2 will be post breakfast and pre lunch. Day 3 pre and post lunch. Day 4 Post lunch and just before bed. Day 5 morning fasting and pre bed.

Everyone's blood sugar will react differently when it comes to food. Only you can determine whether it was good or bad for you once you have tested your blood sugar 2 hours after you ate the food.

I stay away from pasta because I know it will spike my blood sugar. That may not happen to you or other diabetics. Diabetes is not a one size fits all disease. Therefore, we could not tell you how your body is going to react to something you ate. To determine how your body will react to what you eat would require you to test at least 2 hours after you eat the meal. Hope this helps.

I like dreamfields and rarely have a reaction from it. Check your sugars 2 hours after and that should give you an idea of how your body reacts to that. Let us know, I'm curious now LoL :) … Cheryl

Cheryl I have tried the dreamfields pasta and I get a small spike. I have had other kinds with different kinds of results. Different people get different reactions.
