Hi Teresa ~ I was told of a book to get when I found out that totally helped me to understand what was going on with my body. That was Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars Diabetes. Its totally in terms that are easy to understand. It definitely helped me through a lot of questions that I initially had. You might be able to find this at your library. I cannot remember how much I paid for my book as it was 2008 when I did purchase it. Wish I could help you more. Hugs ~ Cheryl

The best way to learn about diabetes is to speak with a diabetic educator. Your doctor can refer you. Prior to the appointment, write down all the questions you have and take them with you. This way you can ask and get answers right there.

Doing research on your own on the internet can be both good and bad. You have to consider the source of the information. For instance Wikipedia is one of the worse sources for information on the internet. Anyone can write information for them and it does not have to be accurate or contain facts to be published.

I use WebMD, The Mayo Clinic, The National Institute of Health. If I read articles, I research the person who wrote the article. I look at the bottom of the article to see if it has a source listed for where they got the information. I also research the source. I pay very little attention to information written by Heath Reporters for newspapers. I also have a collection of books about diabetes, meal plans and diabetic cookbooks. I have found the Diabetic Living magazine to be helpful. The Mayo Clinic publishes one quarterly and Prevention magazine is pretty good. They all contain recipes which I love.

The best source would be your doctor. You should ask your doctor all questions regarding medications and medical health. Only he/she can best answer those questions.
