I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago and stage 4 kidney disease one year ago. I can no longer take Metformin because of the kidneys, and they put me on Glipizide . Now I have read that Glipizide can increase your chance of a heart event, and I already have double the chance with the two chronic diseases I have. Why would they put me on this medication, if that is the case.
I am thinking I want to ask them for another class of drug so wondering what some of you would do if you were in my shoes? My A1C is 5.1 and kidneys are at about 25%. Thanks

Does the benefit outweigh the bad? Do some research, and ask your doctor, or discuss other options. Sometimes, the doctor doesn't know, ask your doctor why s/he put you on that medication.
