I take a total of 15 units of fast acting during the day 3 to 5 each meal pending carb intake…22 units at night…nothing wrong with that…

This is what happens…I take my lantis at about 7pm or around the same time…with a snack about 30 carbs…no big deal, and I make sure it has some protein in it…Then about 2 to 3 hours later, my stomach starts to growl and I get really hungry…but my BG is about 165, I shouldn't be hungry, And drinking water, doesn't really help with the hunger…and I really dont want to take more insulin at 11pm at night for a high BG in the morning…SOMETIMES its 2 to 3am and I have a BG of 108 or 110? This is really frustrating…

Any ideas…? Thoughts?

Hi, Scarlet. while I was reading your post was like listening to myself 3 years ago. I had the same prob at that time. I spoke with my doctor and after discussing all septs I can do, we found that Increasing the amount of proteing help me not to have hungry late night even after my snack. But I had to do that wihout increasing my calories then the best way was adding whey proteing. I prepare my 25 gms of carbs snack and I drink a whey proteing shake made with water or non fat milk. That really helped me, my BG keep good. The average of my BG for example at 11pm (I took my snack at 8pm) was 125. When I wake up in the morning my BG numbers was an average of 112. I use Levemir and Humalog. Levemir about 6pm Humalog, 5 unts after each meal and when the numbers shows necessary. I don't know if the whey protein shake could help you. Talk to your doctor. For me was really helpful cause help me to avoid that cravings or hungry late night. Good luck.

Thank you I"ll look into that…I talked to my diabetic counselor today…she said almost the same thing…and its better to have 15grms of carbs so I dont need a shot. plus it will kill the cravings…or to eat protein…I'll look up the shake the next time I'll go shopping too

I really hope it help you. Protein can help keep ourselves far from that cravings or late night hungry. If you want to have other choices for the proteing without increasing the amount of fat and calories you can use nuts (pistachios or almonds) a bunch of 10 or 15 is enought, 1 boiled egg or the shake as I said before plus your gms of carbs for the snack. Tonight for example I took a snack of 20 gms of carbs instead of 25 and 1 boiled egg. After short time you will be use to make different combinations of your gms of carbs plus the amount of protein in your night snack. Enjoy

OH…never thought of the egg…good idea…

I had cinnamon flavored apple sauce and 1 homemade biscuit with peanut butter…I would eat nuts but my tummy doesn't like them :(

I'll remember that … being on insulin can be so funky sometimes
