I never realized the different variety of insulin out there. I know about the short and long acting. What insulin are you on? Has it helped you control your BG?

I have been on Humulin N and Humalog for about 12 years now and they have helped me the best. I have been a diabetic for 43 years. so I have tried them all except for one. I would like to make sure every body knows this DO NOT TAKE APRIDA the American Diabetes Ass. does not recomment that insulin to any diabetic. It will completely shut down your pancreas and those that put it in a pump will go to using injections pretty quick. There has been NUMEROUS law suits filed against the maker of it due to complications. My nephew has a pump and was put on that and ended up in the hospital with total Pancreatic Failure and now has a lot of problems I was shocked when my dr. wanted to put me on it and I researched it with ADA and that is what they said,. I have been a member for over 20 years so I told my dr. I would not take it. but now my insurance does not cover my insulin that I take now ( and they have for 20 years now) cause they only cover Aprida and Novolog. I can not take either of them so I just had to pay $500 for my insulin what a rip off.

I was on Lantus for before bed and Humalog during the day. Then one day I was at the Doctors and saw this thing on the nurses belt and she told me it was an insulin pump and I said I want one. That was almost 2 years ago and I love this thing. Now I am only on Humalog and the pump and only when I go too long without checking my blood do I get very high and I have only seen 200 or more 1 time in the last 6months.

I'm also on long acting Lantus one nightly shot plus metformin. I have been a PWD T2 for 12 years. I wish I went on Insulin years ago. Much better BS control and no nasty side effects like the ones I was having when I was taking Actos

Hi Gwen! I use Lantus, which is a long acting insulin. I take 15 units every morning. And at this stage in my life it is working great for me. My numbers stay in the 90-110 range on a consistent basis. Of course, this is in conjunction with a healthy meal plan, exercise, and an oral med (I also take Januvia), but so far so good! In my opinion, my insulin is one of the things that has helped to save my life :)
