this is important even though there are unpleasant comments

Anonymous 2009-02-26 17:37:52 -0600 Report

With the negativity that resulted in this discussion, and the fact that there is at least one other entitled the same thing that people have commented on since this discussion, why are you bringing this back to the forefront?

Goddess 2009-02-26 17:52:27 -0600 Report

self-esteem is very important issue. If you cann't say anything positive don't say anything.

Anonymous 2009-02-26 17:57:03 -0600 Report

My comments were not negative, just questioning. And you have no business telling me when I may speak or not speak.

DJ 2009-03-01 11:46:54 -0600 Report

OK, I have soooo had it with this Anonymous JERK!!I have had it with your comments, and your negative Attitude!! When you have nothing nice or helpful to say..then simply "SHUT-UP"..I have never seen a useful comment from you and you are always hiding..what the heck are you here for?? This is a very relevent topic, and is a very serious one and it doesn't matter who started it or how old it is..especially if someone is helped by it..and there is the bottom line!!Seriously, get over yourself and either be helpful or be make me NOT want to be here anymore and I bet I'm not alone there!! Grow up!! *DJ

Goddess 2009-02-07 13:12:29 -0600 Report

This is why this one is being brought up.

highlandcitygirl 2009-02-07 19:55:59 -0600 Report

wow! i do so understand what rude is! now back to the subject, i am having a really hard time lately, i feel very down and have not been able to get back up. i feel very ill. every time i move around just a little my heart feels sick! and even when something upsets me or stresses me out it pounds and my stomach hurts. i think i'm dying,it don't bother me none at all to be dead, but the dying process scares me and i am in pain all the time! mentally, emotionaly, and physically.

That's so heartbreaking to hear. I hope you're getting love and support from your family and friends, and that your doctor is working closely with you on the pain issue, as well as your emotional state. I cannot imagine being in constant pain. When did you last see your doctor about those feelings with your heart, etc.? I hope they keep working toward getting you some relief, physically and emotionally. In the meantime, read Ken's jokes and that will give you a few chuckles, which is very good medicine. Hang in there, but keep pushing the doctor to help you with that pain.

LadyDi - 26259Miller
LadyDi - 26259Miller 2009-02-07 20:53:17 -0600 Report

Well, that's not good. Do you have someone who goes with you that might be able to help with that? You should never feel uncomfortable when questioning your doctor and talking with him about something as important as your health. Especially when they all charge as much as they do. Does he make you feel that way, or is it just something you personally feel? That really needs to change, even if you need to change to a doctor with whom you can be more comfortable.

highlandcitygirl 2009-02-07 21:01:24 -0600 Report

its me! the therapist told me i wasn't very assertive! and i find it hard to tell the doctor in a way that will show him i mean business, it just don't come easy for me. there is no one to go with me, as my husband is the only one i have here and he has his problems!

I battle with this everyday. I did go see a therapist to tell him I didn't know how to like myself. He said I really can't help you until you can learned to like yourself? Duh, thats why I went to see him. But I found some friends here that have took me under their wings and we talk often thru the message system. If you every need to blow off steam or maybe just vent, send me a message and I will try to help. If I can't help you , there are several friends on here that might…Debe

Excellent suggestion. Debe, your experience was a strange one. Glad you've been able to find help through talking with some of us here on DC. I tell you I would not have made it through some of the times in my life without having friends to talk to. Don't confide in many, but those I do have to lean on are valuable to me.

what is the description of self-esteem?

Goddess 2009-01-03 14:50:38 -0600 Report

To me it is feeling bad about yourself. Also it doesn't help when others hurt you and they know they did. That is how some people have fun is by hurting others. I know because have been their and close to suicide attempt again.

I have had a bad self-esteem all my life pretty much. I was teased in school, and even now I don't think I am good enough to live in this world . I'm ugly fat and I hate myself. I have attempted suicide several times in my life but I am doing better knowing I have a father that loves me unconditionally! And I can talk to him whenever I am feeling down (which is all the time)

Goddess 2009-03-01 10:19:06 -0600 Report

There is no need to feel that way.I've had the same problems as you.I did attempt suicide once. You have a lving family here.I just made up self-esteem # 2 because of some of the very negative and unnecessay other comments. Email me anytime and I will get back to you.Diane

Self esteem is how one feels about themselves. Godess, listen to highlandcitygirl, she is correct when she says things will get better. Years ago my self esteem was verrrry low and I tried to take the suicide way out but thank God I got some help. When I look back, I'm glad I'm still here because there is help to keep me on the positive side of the esteem department. Shubie, you are never alone! There is a higher power and it's ALWAYS with you! It's ok to have a little self pity but don't stay there to long! You gotta shake it off and remember you are not alone.

There definitely needs to be professional help involved when one gets to that depth of depression. You need to be able to distinguish between depession and low self-esteem, as well. Professionals can help with that…help you really get to the root of your feelings. Until you actually understand what you're feeling, it's hard to know how to overcome it or deal with it.

I pray that anyone sinking into a state of depression (or low self esteem) will immediately seek some help. If you don't or won't, then I pray someone near to you insists that you do so and makes sure to get you there. Jazzyjan is right. You cannot allow yourself to hit bottom and remain there. If you're not able to pull out of it on your own, please get help.

I know you have been on the site posting on various discussions since you made this remark. Apparently you have no intention of responding to my question. For someone who has begun discussions on "Saying Something Nice" and who is always making comments about others being rude, this remark seems hypocritical to me. I hardly think that I can be your "problem".

Goddess 2009-01-12 04:04:23 -0600 Report

You need to be sensitive to others feelings. Some things you say puts a person down more than helping your're hurting them.

I have self-esteem issues, everyone has them. What I found out recently, from a therapist, is not to look in the mirror and think about you. You are more likely to fill yourself with self destructive thoughts. The positive activity I do to improve my self esteem is to say my mantra, “I love myself, I am a good person, I believe I can do anything, God Loves me, My Husband loves me and my son loves me. I have to take care of myself first before I can take care of others.”

My self-esteem is gone. I basically have no life, anymore. Between my health problems and taking 24/7 care of my dad with Alzheimer's, I just feel like I am nothing, I have no place anymore in the world. I took care of my mom until she died, now I am taking care of my dad. In the meantime, my health is getting worse. I just feel like all bad things ar eahead of me - my dad's impending death, and then I will be alone, in ill health with no one to care for me, after I have taken care of everyone. I guess I am wallowing in self pity. Sorry, I just needed to get that out.
