Hey I was wondering if there were any others out there with the big D and Celiac? If so do you have troubles with your diet affecting you BG?

Type 1 diabetics need to avoid gluten even if they don't have celiacs. There is a correlation between autoimmune disorders and gluten affecting the absorption of several amino acids.

I am sure there are many here, because I have seen various ppl mention it in passing. I am sure many who have it will see this and comment!

I don't have Celiacs but I avoid gluten and wheat as my counselor says it's better for my mental health. I just try and portion everything. I eat gluten free bread and rice pasta.

Sure does. How do you manage your diet and your BG?

It's a balancing act and I'm still learning. Stuff that's gluten free does tend to have more carbs! I cook most things from scratch and am baking my own bread, altho I have been experimenting with different brands of baked goods too. I try to eat pretty much the same foods as before I was diagnosed (last September), just substituting the GF stuff for what I used to use, and am adding things like quinoa and beans to the meals. And lots more veggies to fill the void! There are many veggies I'd never had that I am trying to use now, and squash too!
I am a chocoholic still, but don't eat very much, there is a whole list of GF candy out there.
There are many websites that have recipes and GF food information, and I find them very helpful!
