Hi everyone!

My fiance and I, we get married 6/9/13, have been thinking about getting pregnant. Neither of us are getting any younger and we are in a good place in our lives to have children.

However, I a so concerned about being pregnant and having Type 2 diabetes. All of the research I've done online says that the best time to start preparing for pregnancy with diabetes is before you are pregnant.

I must admit, I am NOT very good about watching what I eat and testing my sugar, and all of that.

I was just wondering if any of you have been through a pregnancy with diabetes and what it was like.

Howdy Bonnie

I know pregnancy can be scary enough just thinking about it even if the lady is healthy. To have a disease like diabetes on top of everything can almost stop a lady in her tracks. My 1st wife, mother of my 3 sons, had no diabetes issues before conception, but she developed gestational diabetes (GD) for each of those 3 pregnancies. And it seemed the GD was getting worse with each pregnancy as it was showing up earlier in each successive pregnancy. We decided to stop with 3 before another pregnancy might put her over the top into full blown T 2 diabetes. (her mother had type 2 and heart disease).

With our first son, it was a surprise to find she had GD (at that time I wasn't t 2) and she hadn't been watching her menu that closely, but once whe found out she learned what to eat to manage her Blood Glucose (BG) levels. All of our sons are fine, and as of yet do not have Diabetes.

Since you know you have diabetes and have to watch your eating closely, you should be fine if you get on top of your diabetes and control it.

Take a look at this from the CDC about uncontrolled diabetes in pregancry. View it here ~ http://www.cdc.gov/pregnancy/documents/Diabet...

It is to your benefit to get your diabetes under better control anyway! A "little bundle of joy" would just be a good motivator to do just that!

Praying for a healthy pregnancy and delivery should you decide to get "in a family way"!

If you want a healthy baby, you better get on track with watching your diet, and numbers daily. Here is a good article for you. Good luck and congrats on both, when they happen! http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/...

Thanks Nana_anna. I want a baby really bad, but I'm a little scared about the whole thing. At least having a baby will push me into forcing myself to eat healthier and watch my levels more closely.
