I've been using the pump and 6 mm infusion sets for 6 months now. Lately, I've been experiencing some poor infusion sites whereby my BG goes a little high after the middle of the second day. I weight my food and have very little variation in BG. I may be using infusion sites again. It is hard to tell because there are no scars. Also, this last month, the infusion sets are painful and pumping insulin often feels like a bee sting.

Animas suggests I try the 9mm. I'm also considering a pump holiday.

What is your experience with 6mm and 9mm infusion sets?

I use a 9mm as I am fairly thick-skinned. In my experience, I have found that placement has a lot more to do with good absorption performance than anything else. I use my mid-section exclusively, but even across that fairly large area I have found some places work better than others. I have not used my buttocks or thighs.

I searched this topic in other forums and found that there is little or no difference of absorption between 6m and 9mm infusion sets. I also found out that the American Association of Diabetic Educators is recommending to use infusion for not longer than 48 hours.
