Does your doctor still have you test for ketones? I remember several years ago when I was newly diagnosed testing for ketones, but I haven't heard much about testing for ketones lately and my doctor never mentions it. Is it just a thing of the past?

I'm on the insulin pump so I test just about every time my BG is above 300 and I have a stomach(my symptom for ketones).

I don't regularly, but I have a vial of test strips in the "diabetes cabinet" that I will break out if I'm having a bad day or am sick with a cold/flu. I also have an annual urinalysis panel done at the same time I have my blood panels done.

I use to test for ketones when diagnosed in '86. I don't recall when my doc told me to stop.

My DS (19 yo) still tests for ketones when he's very high and/or nauseated. It lets us know to add some extra insulin to help him get bg down. We find that his bg is more resistant to coming down if he has ketones in the mix. His endo sees a lot of college aged kids/young adults so its still on her radar as part of self-care.
