I was diagnosed with Type 2 almost 6 years ago. With diet I was able to lose weight & control my numbers. The years passed & the stress in my life hit an all time high. Two months after we moved to another state, my husband was diagnosed with cancer & entered treatment (he's now ok). The next year I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Then my 89 year old dad who also suffers from Alzheimer's had a stroke & came to live with us. After 6 months he was healthy enough to move to assisted living. My bgl was 225, I was overweight & out of shape. My husband was pre-diabetic. I knew I had to make some changes so we would be healthy enough to enjoy our retirement together. We started on a healthy eating plan, not a diet. We have lost over 85 lbs together & now exercise at our local YMCA 4 days a week. I have eliminated 7 medications & no longer suffer from depression. My bgl these days is usually under 100. My favorite exercise class is yoga/pilates done in a swimming pool. I Exercise on land is too painful because of the Fibromyalgia, but in the water I can do anything. I also do daily meditation. My husband I are both 62.
