Hi I am new here but am going to try and see how this works. I was told I had Diabeties and did not take it seriously at times I had to take insulin and then I would go months not needing it now I can't get them below 360 alot of the time I am in the 400's and now I have to take Humulin U-500 which I am told they do not use all that often. I need to learn to Carb count because they want me to use an insulin pump. they are saying that my body no longer makes insulin so I went from a 2 to a 1. has any one had this problem or are using the pump or has had a hard time with carb counting and also DIETING!!!!!

Jane Ellen,

I take U-500 as well, started using it about 4 years ago. It's very concentrated, and works very well, so need to check your blood sugar often. . I'm on a insulin pump. When the doc prescribed me on this insulin I had to check my BD before a meal, 2 hours after a meal, before bedtime and 2 hours after midnight. Yes, carb counting is important for pump users. Please see a nutritionist, will definitly help you with carb counting and the sensitivity of this insulin.
