I am taking care of my Mother-in-law she moved in with us in October and her sugar is way out of wack. We check sugar 4 times a day. Some times we check it and it is 53 then turn around and check it at next time and it will be 469.. We have followed the doctors suggestion stemmed vegs and salads with no dressing or vinegar and oil. I bake Chicken and Pork…She has been told she is in Kidney failure. So if anyone can help us.. We need lots of recipes and stuff I can do for her.

When you correct a low blood sugar be sure to not over treat it. That can be difficult sometimes because that panicky feeling with hypoglycemia can make you grab for anything and everything in sight! I used to have this problem. It's important to go by the 15-15 rule. Consume 15 grams of fast acting carbs, recheck in 15 minutes and repeat if needed until you are in target range. If its going to be awhile until you have your next meal it might be a good idea to have a complex carb snack that has protein in it to prevent any hypoglycemic episode. I hope she gets well!

Try not to Overtreat a low. I'm not saying you are but it leads to a roller coaster of blood sugars. Also smaller frequent meals might help stabilize her numbers. Just make sure you balance carbs with protien

I'm sorry your mother-in-law is going through this. You may want to look at foods that also help the kidney, balance it with foods she is able to eat as a diabetic. Since she has two health issues she's dealing with. Sincerely will pray for her.

No we dont eat potatoes, rice and the only thing we have is sugar free stuff as cookies for her. We are going back to her doctor and I hope he can figure it out. I May talk to him about the pump and see if they think she would do good with it.. Does age have anything to do with them putting a pump in she is 74.

Sometimes when your blood sugars are all out of whack , an insulin pump does wonders … Helps to lower your numbers and keep them @ more stable … I know it helped me and others that I know using pumps …
