I wish to start doing half an hour exercise a day on top of my half hour lunch walk. I work in an office all day so exercise is hard and getting motivated at home is even harder.

I really need to do it so can anyone answer this question?

Is it best to exercise as soon as I get home before dinner or work out afterwards? I'm looking to do 10 mins on the vibrator isolator machine, 10 minutes of hand weights and a final 10 mins of crunches.

Any help would be great…

Thanks all

Exercising is mental first then fortitude. It's the ability to make sacrifice beyond normal things. I am type 2 and I exercise 5x a week. I walk 5 miles at gym all uphill and my sugar readings are the best. My a1c is in line too. If diet and exercise is what doc ordered make it part of your day to exercise. The more you do it the less it becomes a hassle. Enjoy

Like everyone said it's what works for you. I agree with Gwen though, take time to do it in short increments if you donthave time to do it all at once. I exercise first thing in the morning, it gives me a nice outlook on the day, sets me up for making the right choices, etc. One thing I've learned through the years, even before D, that routine is very important when it comes to exercising, it becomes part of you and it also has to be a part of what you should do. So many of us, cross off exercise from our to do list due to lack of time, but in my opinion this should take priority in your daily routine!

hisetapart, I have the same problem when I excercise so I carry a tube of glucose tablets in my pocket I also break up my excercise routines in 30 min increments to avoid drastic lows as excercise is as effective as insulin, gen rule of thumb for me I don't attempt excercise unless I am at lest 120 so far anyway that has been the case, a two mile walk will drop my BG by 37, I keep a journal I test before &after I excercise I too love to hike, however it is all flat land here in Fl. lol Linda

Hi, it really depends on you. What do you prefer? Also, you don't have to do all at once, you can do 10 min in morning, 10in at lunch and 10 minutes after dinner. Good luck!

That's a very good question. I had to Google when is the best time to exercise. Seems like everyone has a different opinion on what time is best.. The bottom line is exercise when ever it is the best time for you

After taking my am BG reading I have breakfast then exercise on the bike every day for 15-20 min. or about 4 miles of peddaling. Then I go to the gym at 2pm and fast walk on the tredmill for about 30 min of 1.5 miles every other day. I never thought about doing it before or after meals.

In my opinion the best exercise is wolking fast, note that the heart works, it's a good idea after eatingot helps to consume glucosa meal. I've noticed that when I do this every day the glucose hemoglobin level is lower than seven, id not is over seven and half, and this wolud bring me serious problems in the cascular system and its consequences on the living standards. I try to do every week plus some management on foot. And scored in the control book, the trips made to motivate me and show the them on regular visits to the doctor.
It's beter half an hour that none. I think exercise involves running the heard and sweat a little.
I hpoe this can help you, and tell me how it goes.
A hug. Josep Maria

Hi David

Thanks great advice, thanks.

I think I will try the before dinner and just watch the portion sizes on all my meals.

Just need to get my condition better so I can try and reverse the T2 and get my body back on track. Any extra exercise has to be good so best just try things out like you say and see what works!

Tough one to answer in my humble opinion. Some look at all exercise as a way to loose weight while some look at it as purely health and some see both.

With that said I'e heard it both ways as far as loosing weight, that you'll burn more fat if you exercise before you eat and others say it only makes you hungry and you tend to eat more after.

Didn't help a bit did I?

I'd try both and something that helps me is to not overeat at a meal and to not do exercises so close after a mean that they make what was a pleasant meal beforehand, not so pleasant after the exercising. Consequently I lean to exercising before a meal or at least two hours afterwards.

Good luck!
