I am so tired of all the finger sticking, record keeping, shots and pills all the time. I try to keep going but it gets so hard at times, to make matters worse I was just recently diagnoised with Stage 3 kidney disease, so it's more important than ever to keep on top of all this stuff, I need help with motivation…

Hi Elaine
I know what you mean. I've been having problems with motivation, losing weight. I have stage 3 kidney disease and need to be very vigilant with keeping the BS in check. Tell you what, let's both put in renewal effort and see where it gets us. Let's keep in touch. Elaine

I have to admit that I used denial for a prolonged period. Following that, I started yoga a while back and I do find escape from mindless time at the gym. Don't misunderstand that I enjoy going to the gym…I don't, but I do zone out and as a result of going I am in better shape than when I was diagnosed. When you think about it, it's fairly ridiculous. Prior to any diagnosis (2 1/2 year ago) you couldn't have dynamited me into a gym. Had I done so, there's a possibility, even a probability, that I wouldn't have been diagnosed at all. Instead, I force myself to even though I have neuropathy and need to take breaks periodically.

I don't know if this answer helps anyone with motivation. All I can tell you is sometimes you just do things seemingly absent any motivation as the results associated with what you have done serve to motivate you.

Far more importantly, I hope that you'll find your own path to peace and self care.

Howdy Elaine!

I am sorry you are feeling burned out. It is no fun at all! Especially when you just found out you have stage 3 kidney disease.

You may not be aware that I have now completed 3 weeks of dialysis treatments. I have written a discussion about my typical treatment at a dialysis clinic which can be found here ~ Read through that should you need motivation to control your diabetes better.

OH and BTW, should you need kidney friendly meal plans, just ask and I could provide.

Praying your kidneys stay at stage 3 for a LONG time!

I'm sorry it's getting to you, and I'm so sorry about the recent additional diagnosis. I think we all have to deal with burnout sooner or later. My best motivation is to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible, so that my life will be as enjoyable as possible. It's certainly not a perfect world, but I try daily to enjoy the good stuff. There's a book on the ADA website, if you like to read, I haven't read it yet, maybe someone else has? It's called Diabetes Burnout: What to Do When You Can't Take It Anymore

Hi, it is really nice to see someone has given a compassionate response to you. Thank you for that Caliko it was really sweat.
I have Diabetes Burnout and I did purchase the book however I find reading it at the moment difficult due to continuous eye hemorraging for the last 3 yrs. From what I have read it seems like a good book however here in Auz not many people INCLUDING Dr's know what Diabetes Burnout is. Which makes things quite difficult to say the least. Elaine52 I would like to add a friend request for you but I don't really know how to as yet. Take care and I wish you all the best brightest moments of each day. Terri :O)
