i was dianosed sept 30, 2012. I went from A1C of 10.4 to a 6.7 (last week of Jan) I am only on 1000 mg twice a day of metformin. my trick to get my numbers lower was that i read all labels, if the carbs are over 19 grams of carbs i dont touch it. it is hard at first, but it works! i have also lost 24 pounds by doing this, as well as my energy lvls are now higher than ever. good luck, if i can do it anyone can!

You may want to talk to your doctor about this. He may have increase or change medication if your numbers are the same or if they are increasing, even while your trying to lower the Blood sugar

You were just diagnosed , so there's different pills ( oral meds ) you can try … I tried most pills made for diabetics … Until I had to agree with my doctor that pills were not cutting the mustard I went on insulin … Doing so much better now … Have a great night …

ive eliminated all white fooda as well. if and when i eat bread, its whole grain. but i am sticking to more protiens. one problem i have is severe food allergies. so veggies, seafood and fish are out. which makes me a dieticians nightmare.
thank you for the ideas though. i also like your diet plan.glad that you found what works for you.

My meal plan is evolving as I am now also on dialysis, which has a whole other set of dietary guidelines, in some cases almost exactly opposite of what a person with diabetes needs. I have to avoid foods with high amounts of potassium and phosphorus. (there are several no no's there Including whole grain breads)

I have a good friend who was Dx'd when I was there visiting her in the summer. She did not eat any veggies except corn and sauerkaut. Yep she too was an RD's nightmare.

Howdy Raccoon mana

I am wondering how you are watching your diet? I wonder if you might have thought like me when I was first Dx'd in 1995.

Dr told me to eat healthy. So I went out and bought rice cakes to eat for lunches. I thought he meant to eat "light" and I thought that rice cakes were light.

Turns out I was eating the wrong types of things. I was eating carbohydrates (carbs) instead of proteins, fruits and non starchy veggies.

Avoid any thing "white" like bread, sugar, potatoes (except cauliflower) . In fact I now avoid anything made from grains, (for various reasons).

In fact you might want to take a look at my meal plan which you may find here ~ http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/14...
