I was DX with diabetes 3 years after a whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer. I started with pills different kinds and have been on insulin for about 1 1/2 yrs? Time flies!! My A1C has been going up for the past year. Guess the pancreas that is left isn't helping me much. I end up giving myself 2 shots of Lantus a day and now 2 units of Humalog at each Now I think I'm accepting that for me, "shooting up" is gonna be a way of life. Sometimes I do feel sorry for myself, but the truth is I am lucky to be alive after 2 bouts with pancreatic cancer, one lung surgery and lung cancer -9 yrs in recovery from cancer. I just sometimes HATE having to take so many shots-even the pens get old after awhile. I'm glas some people DO manage to DC insulin and live a more normal life.

are you Jealous of little ole ME, EJ?

I have been able to DC insulin for a while, but am aware that I may need to return to it whenever my pancreas gets pooped out. Due to my kidney issues I cannot return to oral antihypoglycemic meds so it will be back to insulin for me should that occur.

not right now, James. I have been very emotional lately. Switch between gratitude and self=pity. It's driving me nuts. Feels like menopause all over again-crazy emotions and hot flashes. I was through with that 8 yrs ago I thought. You have so many people praying for you that I know you will be able to deal with this crappy new development with grace & charm.

I hated the thought of insulin and any time it was brought up by doctor I would try to get a different oral medication anything but insulin … Been on insulin for a little over a year and now that I'm not producing any of my own , I LOVE INSULIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes u get used to taking it , though I use a pump now … No more shots …,

I thought having to inject insulin was the worse thing ever when I was first dianosed with diabetes. However, after having been on it for 12 years, it's now just another part of life… It's funny how things just work themselves out sometimes!

No doubt it does suck . . . but I try to look at the many other things that are much worse than taking insulin that make the injections feel like a walk in the park.
