To answer your question, it would read like a book. When I need information I go to the library. DC and Barnes & Nobel books. For sweets, I eat Extra Dark Chocolate 90% Cocoa. When shopping read the labels and when eating foods with carbs look at the serving sizes. Example: I like brocolli, colliflower and cheese. which have 18 grams of carbs per serving. The bag has 3 servings so 54 grams if you choose to eat the entire bag. I do not eat any candy that advertises carb free. There is a bread that advertises 5 grms of carbs but if you look on the label each slice has 8 grams. Do some research and you will get to know you carb foods. Read Read Read is what you have to do to get information on controlling this condition. Good Luck and Happy Carb Counting.

I like fruit, but since it has natural sugar I have to watch what I eat. I can eat 1/2 apples, pears, and grapefruit 1/4. The berry family is especially friendly, so I eat about 1/2 cup with sugar free whipped topping as a treat. I don't eat pastas and am careful with sugar free product like ice cream because although it's sugar free, it's the carbs that'll get you, unless you can stop at 1/2 cup of ice cream! Keep veggies in the frig that are precut, for those times when you need crunch. I eat jerky, nuts, and sometimes I will have pork skins with salsa. Natures own whole wheat bread is friendly for me, at 10 g carbs per slice!

The main thing to stay away from is starches… Mostly anything that is white… potatoes, rice, pastas, etc…

One thing you could do is use things that are wheat… Example. I love spaghetti! So because my dad is boarder line and I am type 2 I try to watch somethings some times… So i will use wheat noodles and no one in the house ever knows a difference once it cooks it isn't as dark as it looks in the box and you really can't tell so I sneak that in on everyone in the house from time to time.

If you like fish that is one thing that is good for you. Better for you if it is baked and not fried. And better for you if it is not breaded…

Try to stay away from bread as well… It is white so that means it usually isn't good for you… I think the only thing that I can think of that is white that is good for you is cauliflower.

Ice cream… That is something sweet that you can get that isn;t good for you but better for you… They have I know in the Bryer's Brand one that says half the sugar and they have that is no sugar added and I think one that has Splenda used in it. Read the back of those because I can not remember off of the top of my head But although the front of the containers say that still look at the sugar on the side of the container several of them say no sugar added and it has plenty of sugar.

Use Splenda or Equal instead of sugar in your drinks and desserts People say oh that is nasty… Really I think it is mind over matter… So if you don't mind then it don't matter…

Also one cake that I like to make from time to time is…
Well it isn't one certain cake but the cakes are good. One of my instructors had told me about this and I thought she was joking… No icing needed unless you just feel that you have to have it. But whipped icing is better for you than butter-cream.

This cake is simple everyone will love it and it is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3 …
Get your favorite cake mix. Which ever you like…
This is the fun part… mix any kind of Soda that you want… Used Diet or one of the ones with Splenda in them…But you can also use regular Soda if you insist. You need 10 ounces of soda per box of mix.
Example of combinations for cakes to make…
Chocolate cake mix with Dr,Pepper or Cheerwine… Then you have that nice chocolate and cherry kind of taste.
By the way these cakes will be the most moist cake you have EVER tried.
I have made several combinations and all have turned out will and no icing was needed…

Oh and not sure if you like salads but eat one with all your meals. they help you.

I eat croutons with all my salads and soups but in moderation. Like James said, Portion Control and you can still enjoy eating.

You can eat them in moderation, unless you have gluten intolerance. One of the best practices of managing one's diabetes is portion control!
