So how many injections do you get out of one pen? I'm reading over the information and instructions and I want to make sure I do this correctly.

It depends on how many units you are using. I usually get about 2 1/2 weeks out of a pen including the 2 units to prime each time. I mark on my calendar each time I take one out of the fridge for 28 days, that's how long they are supposed to be good for, and I always have time left on the 28 day count, so I start all over again with a new pen!

Doctor told me I can keep it out for 30 days. I'm using 10 units each night before dinner.

The pen you are using is a solostar pen you can see how much insulin in the pen also when you get down near the end of the pen the dial will only go to how much is left in the pen. If you turn the dial and it stops at 8 units thats how much insulin is left in the pen

I got two pens from the doctor and then a box with five in them when I went to the pharmacy this evening. How do you know when the pen is empty? My doctor has on 10 on the dial. So I was wondering how many injections I would get out that one pen before using a new one.

Alan's right. You will see a little black piece of plastic move downward inside the pen each time you use it. I usually end up with one leftover unit at the end of each pen's use. Of course, everyone is different. But if you are doing 10 units daily, each pen should last you awhile. And don't forget to take onto account 2 units to prime the pen each time you inject. It's extremely important to prime the pen each time.

The doctor told me about the priming yesterday.

I wondered the same thing when I started taken insulin. I use Levimer and each pen has 300 units. So the way to tell is divide the amount of insulin you are taking by how many units you are taking. This will give you how many days per pen. I hoped this will help. And best of luck to you.

I get 5 each time too. I can usually getadjust about 2 weeks out of each pen (15 units plus 2 units to prime each day). I guess it will depend on how many units you use each time.

Hi Mirena pens are real easy u just prime it then dial in number of units u r supposed to take and inject … Look at amount of units in pen see how many units u r supposed to take and u can calculate how many shots a pen will give you … I got 5 Lantus & 5 Novolog pens each time I filled a prescription … I have one of each in my refrigerator in case of a pump malfunction …
