Hi Allison. I had been going every year for an eye exam, but just routine. Then after I was diagnosed in August I decided to go to a new eye doctor who could give me a more thorough diabetic exam. Well he found some retinopathy in my eyes and referred me to a specialist right away. I was terrified that i was going to go blind. When I went to the specialist he did some tests and told me that even though I do have retinopathy, it hasn't affected my eyesight yet and that we are just going to keep an eye on it. I was thrilled! I had been so scared. He said to just keep my BG as controlled as possible. So my best advice is to try (TRY) to stay calm and just take it one day at a time. You'll be fine!

My step dad was Dx'd wit the wet macular edema. That has been over 2 yrs ago and he seems to have very little problems with it.
