Outside of your regular testing regimen, it may pay to do some extra self-monitoring at certain times to protect yourself from dangerous blood sugar highs and, especially, lows. You may want to consider taking additional tests:
Before getting behind the wheel of your car for a long trip on the highway;
When you make a major change in your diet, such as eating more or less food than usual at certains times of the day;
When you make a significant change in your insulin treatment;
When you take a medication to treat something other than your diabetes;
Before you go into a stressful meeting; or have a confrontation with your boss or co-workers. Stress usually drives your BG #'s..
