I recently got some Sweetleaf by Stevia. I went to the web site and found a recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I made the recipe and something went wrong. The cookies were REALLY dry and soaking them in milk did was not very helpful in moistening them up. The cookies also had a powdery residue ontr he outside of them. It was to the point they could actually be dusted off. I followed the recipe exactly. Does anybody know what I did wrong? Here is the website and the recipe. http://www.sweetleaf.com/recipes/desserts

2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
6 tsp. SugarLeaf™
1 cup butter
1 1/4 cup chocolate chips
Start off by creaming 1 cup of butter and 6 teaspoons of SugarLeaf™. Next, add 1 egg to the butter and SugarLeaf mixture. A little at a time, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. After everything is blended well, add 1 1/4 cups of chocolate chips, flatten each cookie on the cookie sheet and bake at 350oF for a little less than 6 minutes (or until golden brown). Makes 24.

I am going to retry the recipe with less flour, a little less butter and add a little bit of brown sugar. I will post the results when i do it. Thanks for all the input.

You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s just a bad recipe. It could use another egg, baking soda, and of course sugar even though they’re supposed to be low in sugar. Sugar does serve a structural purpose in baked goods. That and your baking powder may be old.

Maybe you could send them to Camp David to use as "clay pigeons" for the president's "skeet shooting" parties. (ROTFL)

I really no longer bake cookies so I have no suggestions as to what went wrong.
