As we all know cutting or limiting carbs is good for us diabetics … There r times I do so great @ lowering my carb in take , but lately my carb in take has been going up … Rice , potatoes , bread have all been creeping back into my diet and yes oh so yummy … I've still been able to maintain good #'s with my pump's help but I'm worried that I'm losing control … I've got so much going on in my life right now … I need to @ least manage my diabetes right … I guess I'm just venting a bit …

Work on portion control. It's not that you CAN'T have these things, but it has to be in the right carb amount. I still have a dessert here or there, or a bagel a morning a week…if I gave them up forever it'd be a miserable life.

However once you've started limiting when you have them, you basically won't crave them as much in the future.

I think we all fall to temptation one in a while. I think as long you enjoyed the treats, watched your portions, and know that usually you can't eat like this eatery you'll be okay. I know ne day I had chicken enchiladas, made the excuse that my protein being the chicken would help balance corn tortillas and pinto beans. I under corrected for the meal and ended with a much higher BG than normal after I ate. I don't eat anything white, too dangerous. I am a t1 and am still on the insulin pens am afraid to get on the pump because I feel like I am more in control with the pens. What do you think? Vent away you will be okay!

Set Apart I used pens for almost a year but my #'s were up and down , to be honest more up !!!!!! I didn't want a pump but then doc & I noticed complications due to diabetes … He said I needed the pump … Since I've got it I've done do much better … Numbers down & stable , I use less insulin … I LOVE MY PUMP !!!!!!!! I'm a type 2 insulin dependent my pancreas no longer makes insulin . So I need insulin like a type 1 …

Thank you, I already feel like having the CGM is a lot, but sometimes think the pump would be easier. I actually have more trouble with lows than highs. I am very sensitive to insulin.

Manapua I eat rice, potatoes and bread. I do not eat this every day. I limit my rice to a tablespoon. it is all about control and how much you want to control what and the amount of something you eat.

I have learned that "Pasta" is better at keeping the body under glycemic control than potatoes by far. Of course, you wouldn't want to load the pasta with heavy creme sauces etc but some sauces and vinigarettes work very nicely on the pasta—— don't forget the healthy veggies that can top pasta.Yum, Yum!!! Love you all, JC

I think it is a symptom of feeling "safe" or "good". I know I have that happen too. I work hard, get those carbs low and then someone tells me I am not eating enough of them, and so willingly I believe. It's a trap! LOL.

Realizing you are doing it is a huge step. At least you can keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get out of control. You are doing so well, keep that in mind and it will help a lot. Plus, now you have a friend to help, and your example will be more important to her than your words.

Hi Guys - Just joined the site and am looking forward to learning from you all. I'm struggling right now with high #s. I quit testing for a few months and it was a shock when I finally tested. I've been doing OK for a few years by watching my carbs for a while then slipping and doing a binge then going back to doing good. I know i need to be more consistent. I've been going to Overeaters Anon. to help with the emotional binges and am doing better. I can understand the feelings of guilt. I know I'm hurting myself yet seem to not care when faced with sugar.

Thanks manapua! I've been diabetic for several years, but have been able to get by with little effort. I think this is my wake up call and I think you all will be a big part of answering that call.

Thanks Sandy … I guess I should checkup fasting glucose right now , mind u I had a sweet drink with out taking any extra meds let's see oh it's bad … 194 … I had a burrito from chipotle Mexican grill really big I guess … I think it was the late night drink … Tennessee Honey that did it … The pump allows u to take corrective bolus which is what I have just done so I add my blood sugar # in and it calculated that I needed about 4.2 units of insulin to get me back to where I need to be … It's now giving me that … Have a GREAT SUPERBOWL SUNDAY !!!!!!!!!!

I am having a hard time with the guilt lately. My numbers are great and I don't normally eat potatoes or high carb bread. Last night for example…my husband and I had dinner at a very nice restaurant to celebrate our birthdays. I splurged a little and had a few pieces of bread and some roasted potatoes. You'd think I just made myself walk the plank lol. It was so good and I deserve a treat once in awhile. But it drove me crazy. I have to learn to relax once in awhile. That's my issue. And I awoke to a FBG of 108! So I was fine! Hang in there! You'll be fine!

I discovered something like that about my body also. Once I had my Blood glucose (BG) under control for a while and my insulin resistance was lowered,
I found that I was able to eat things I couldn't dare to eat before I lost all my weight.

I will treat myself to a goodie once in a while also, as long as I don't overindulge by eating a whole basket of breadsticks (which I used to do in my former life as a carboholic).

Vent away manapua! You DO have control over what you put in your mouth and swallow. But I know the feeling! Sometimes I have to remind my self that things like those are NOT my friends. But I don't have a pump to lean on. I have to manage my BG levels by what I eat and avoid eating.

When I mess up it raises my BG for the next few hours or at most a day or so.
