We all come here for some sort of encouragement in helping ourselves, and how to do it. What is the one thing that you come here for that keeps you coming back. Something you read, your friends, newspaper articles, videos, recipes, discussions. Or certain type of discussions. This may just help us find out why people come, as well as why some peoople want to leave. So, let's find out what keeps you coming back. You can be honest, but if you are angry, try to use it to an advantage, and not to hurt. Thanks

Sorry, I have not been here in a while. But, I am glad to see that you are all here. Hope all is well, and I came back today for moral support. Reading Some of the discussions helps with that, too.

The first thing I do is check the tracked items to see if any have recent post. Then go to most recent discusions. See if I want to respond to any. I look over the recipes and see if any sound good, then print them off. I spend about 1 hour a day on here. Sometimes more but that would be to read articles or videos. I am not very active. I do have another comment. Why is it that there are so many members and the discussions seem to be written by the same people all the time.? Where are all the other members? I was reading discussions today and a whole page was from the same person? It seems like trhere should be away to attract more peope to post. Some new comments or new questions are out there. Am I missing a section?

Well; have you tried looking under each discussion site, pre diabetes, type1 and type 2, emotional. But since some of the posts seem to be posted almost completely the same without 10 minutes after I post a discussion. I am giving up; but what I often do on the discussion pages I keep clicking the highes page number from where you are reading, if you go back to september, there are much more useful posts.

I come for the great advice and encouragement from other posters. When I am feeling a little stressed it is nice to see that others are dealing with this disease in a positive way and are willing to share with others their experiences. Thank you everyone for the inspiration and support. God Bless!

I like most people come for the information. I'll trying to learn all I can about diabeties, I have not been around it much through life, so since I haven't had it long (since July) I need to learn everything I can. Everyone on here is helpful and interesting to talk to. I'm not leaving any time soon. I finally got around to checking out Toma's web site, very interesting. Thanks to you all for everything.

Gabby, I could not have said it better; now how bout coffee in nj? Darn; it just sounded so good, everytime I see you; that is the first thing that comes to mind, plus the fact that you are a good friend with the greatest advice and attitude. It always makes my day happier.
Always, Claudia

I come for the support.
There are a lot of people here that understand what I am dealing with and who help me with support. I know none of you are doctors, so I also understand that advice is from experience not medical research. I'm okay with that. If I need the medical research, there are a lot of other sites that provide that.

To me, this is not a medical site. It is a bunch of friends who come together with a common goal to learn about how we each deal with our diabetes. It is a Connection for diabetics. It is not run by doctors and though I see many "health professionals" join, we don't seem to hear from them. Actually some of the worst advice has come from some who say they are doctors, but it is always an interesting read.

Our main struggle is our disease, but we are not so one dimensional that other things are left out of our lives. Our disease is so complicated, who knows if a single comment that seems "unrelated" might just be a key that all the Medical "experts" overlook. You just never know.

Now, I am not a fan of the bickering and the over sensitive feelings, but we are all human and as long as we respect each other and we learn in humility, then it all works out.

I keep coming back because many of you are my friends and I value your input on a good or bad day.

You might have noticed that the thing I contribute to most is the "News and Articles" section. I have a site that I go to about ALL medical news and each day I go to the "diabetes" section of the site to read all the news posted all over the world concerning diabetes. Some of the news I post is fairly dry for general reading, but the research it reports on is a chance to keep us all informed as to what is being done not only here, but in other countries to find new medicines and other treatments such as supplements.

Most of what I post is just for review, because no real opinion is needed concerning research on medicine. It either works or it does not. Some of the articles are human interest stories. Like all news articles. They appeal to some and not to others.

I love to read and I am an information junkie. If I read it, I usually post it. It is important for me to learn what I can about my disease and if posting might help someone, it is a good thing.

It is good to remember that some articles and research is biased. We have so many intelligent people here and I enjoy when someone points out that an article and even some research is done to just sell a product or promote it.

I also tend to talk or write too much at times…like now. To just answer your question, I come back to learn, be objective, smile, and meet the wonderful variety of people who make up this community.

What a great contribution to the community you are, and with such an eager, get up and go manner. You sound so inspiring. I love it, Claudia

I try to contribute discussions, simple but useful to get us all back on track. Lately diabetes does not seem to be a priority.

kdroberts 2008-12-04 08:04:13 -0600 Report

I mainly come back because of the large amount of misinformation that gets posted. Some of it is well intentioned but misunderstood, some is just not researched but a fair amount of the advice that gets posted will either not really help with managing diabetes or is dangerous and could cause harm. I don't profess to be the be all and end all in diabetes knowledge but if I can warn somebody of potential problems something posted could cause, I'll do it. Unfortunately there are some who feel this is wrong to do because it might offend the person or people who originally posted. If I had to choose between offending somebody or stopping somebody doing something potentially harmful, I'm not going to be too bothered about offending somebody.

Since there are fewer discussions about diabetes now and I'm not really interested in reading all the chit chat discussions, I read and post less than I previously did.

2008-12-04 08:08:39 -0600 Report

Thanks so much; I have tried everything to get back to the subject of diabetes, and your input is useful, and this morning I have started going through posts that are important and putting them up as most recent, to drown out all the chitchat that is not useful.. Who says they are 100% useful anyway. It is not what you first want to see when joining this site, you want to see important information. and I will do this whenever I can. Don't stop contributing. Please, lilmarm

2008-12-04 10:42:24 -0600 Report

I come back because I'm curious to see what people are posting today that may be related to Diabetes. Pretty much for the same reason KD does. The world is full of valuable information regarding caring for yourself with Diabetes or in general and it's at your finger tips with the internet but some tend to believe everything they hear or read and that is scary. I don't contribute as much as I used to either and don't get into the chit chat conversations because people take things the wrong way and get nasty about it. If I have something relevant that I think could be useful to someone new I'll put it out here but other than that I'm just an outsider looking in. And that's ok, I didn't come here to be popular, I came here to help people and to see if there was anything new going on in the Diabetes world.

During my recovery from my accident I decided to go back to college (at the age of 51 years old). I just graduated and I keep working to get healthy so that I can go back to work. I believe that God didn't get me thru all I have gone thru to let me sit at home for the rest of my life! College was an achievement I never thought I would accomplish at my age. If I could do that I know I can learn to deal with diabetes!

Goddess 2008-12-04 07:59:42 -0600 Report

That is great news. If you set your mind to something you can do it. Just like you did and will with diabetes too.

I am so proud of you; I am 56 and thought I could not go back to school because I was thinking about criminal science; I could really be good at investigating crime scenes or something on that line. What did you get your degree for? I am so excited for you. and also, what is the one thing you come back to this site for each day. What would you look at first? luv:->)Claudia
Again; Congratulations

I come back each day first to peruse the recipes; I am always looking for new, healthy and tasty alternatives to my usual recipes. Secondly, I come back to read the "postive" responses to everyone's questions, or general comments about diabetes. I like reading the observations of others regarding this disease. Often I get answers to the questions I have been hesitant to ask. Thanks everyone.
