Well I have my first appointment today with my endo and I am feeling nervous for some reason. It's not like she is going to tell me anything I don't know already. I guess maybe I'm nervous to find out the damage having diabetes has caused and not knowing about it for so long.
I did however give myself an injection last night for the first time on my own. I don't want to stay in the hospital and I heard they would keep you until you injected yourself so I got brave and just did it…LOL!!!

I found from my experience that self injection is really not that bad! Congratulations Mags for being brave!

Well my appointment went well however I might be more confused now than I was before. She told me I am abnormal. I am not a clear cut type 1 nor a clear cut type 2. The testing that was done on my pancreas could be skewed because of the high blood sugars I have. So she increased the metformin, added another drug that is supposed to bring those levels down quickly and to continue the bedtime shot of insulin. If that doesn't bring down my sugars than it will be insulin 3 times a day at every meal.

Perhaps you have type 1.5 diabetes Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults (or LADA). Did she suggest anything like that (MDs often don't "get it")?

The diabetes forecast magazine has an article on 1.5. Read it here ~
http://forecast.diabetes.org/magazine/feature... . There are several discussions over the years about 1.5 in DC here ~ http://www.diabeticconnect.com/search?query=L...= and here ~ http://www.diabeticconnect.com/search?query=t...=

Take a look at the article and the discussions and see if you can identify some similarities to your condition. If you think so, perhaps you can print out some of these and take them to your endo for her review.

She did mention the latent autoimmune but I had no idea what it meant. I somehow had a sneaky suspicion you would. Thanks so much for all of your help and the help you give to so many others on here!!

I love helping others when I can. Now you may read up on LADA, t 1.5, and hopefully you'll be more informed for your next appointment.
