Wondering if anyone else suffers from a mood disorder or takes meds for a mental illness as well as has diabetes? I may be bipolar II (a less common and less severe kind of bipolar) as well as type 1 diabetic. I am very worried about side effects interfering with metabolism etc

Hey Eva I am also a diabetic (type 2) and I was diagnosed with being bipolar not to long after being diagnosed as a diabetic then I was told I had Scotopic syndrome (something to do with reading problems) then ADHD and within the last year I was also told that I have OCD. And out of every medicine they have told me to take before they always told me when I asked if it would affect my diabetes or not. I don't know if this helps or not but if you ask your doctor they should be able to answer your question and if not your pharmacist should.

Do you have two different Doctors to treat these problems, or are you seeing a single physician? If it's the former, make sure that they are both on the same page in regards to your meds.

I'm about to get on a treatment regimen. Before I talk to a psychiatrist again I want to keep researching. It will prob come down to lithium, depakote and lamictal though I am afraid of all of them. :(
