wondering if anyone else out there knows the wonders of having a stomach issue that gets in the way of treating their diabetes w/diet only.A1c just down to 6.0 from 6.3 but I have had to take miralax regularly for weeks at a time(with dr permission ofcourse)to start changing my diet up a little more.I work for myself full time cleaning houses and get plenty of natural exercise from that.I have been diet controlled for about 7 yrs thanks partly to my work keeping me active.I need some normal everyday advice for snacks and things I may not have thought of to keep a good balance.Fiber hates my stomach and is great for diabetes and so on.If anyone has thoughts please help.

I have GAD with IBS and routinely need to take antacids 2x/day with tums. The diet for IBS seems to include general similarities with what I have seen for diabetic recipes. I have need fir a diet for high cholestoral and high blood pressure. Ibam a mixed up mess for diet. My option with each added issue is talking to a neutritionist. I still need to do that. The recipe books available gives me a better idea and then compromise for other dietary needs.

My doc prescribed Amitiza for me because the Miralax made it worse and it had made me more constipated with the IBS … What the Docs don't understand they don't have those issues and we do and I went thru every medication there is and that works really well for me in addition to eating fruits and veggies !!!! Good luck and ask your doc about it :) !!!!!

I at first had trouble with miralax and then found out it was because I wasn't giving it enough time(taking it days in a row often enough).I used to take the only other medicine there was like amitiza but they pulled it from market for safety.Luckly I had discontinued it couple years before because of insurance. But again because of insurance I can't get amitiza for less than 90 per month as is non covered item.I wish that I could and truly can't believe in 10 years I have been treated have not had more scientific updates on meds that work for IBS w/constipation.

I know this sounds kinda out there, but I have recently found out that my IBS is caused and is part of gluten intolerance! Or in my case, Celiacs Disease. They have shown a direct correlation between IBS of all kinds and gluten sensativity to any degree. I wish I could remember which article or newsletter it was that mentioned that, but I get so much stuff now and am doing so much research that I just don't know which it was. I'm sorry!
Anyway, maybe a lessening of gluten products would help the symptoms. I am even able to tolerate more fiber now, and eat all from scratch, non-processed foods, including more veggies with hummus as a snack, and that works reallly well! Fruits too. I am still controlling my Diabetes with Lantus, but only a small dose, since we have discovered that no gluten does equal lower numbers.

I'm rambling..try cutting back on gluten and see what happens with the IBS. Keep me posted :)

Thank you sophie.I had been considering for some time now that gluten and even lactose may be an issue for me.I cut out a few choice items for awhile and found that I have felt better especially in the lactose area.I don't have celiac though as just had testing and it came back neg.It was very kind of you to reply stay in touch with your thoughts. They were appreciated.

I have IBS A ( alternates between constipation and diarrahea) I am still trying to figure out what triggers the change (if anything). Have you been on the IBS site yet? They might have more insight into dthe meal planning end of it.

I pray you get some help. I know it is not fun being constipated. Util one gets relief it ia always in the back of one's mind!
